Day 3 of Art Camp was all about creativity, expression, and learning healthy ways to work through our feeling of WORRY.
Today, our campers made worry dolls, a tradition that comes from Guatemala. A worry doll is a small handmade doll that you can share your worries or something that is bothering you with before bedtime. The idea is to tuck the doll under your pillow and let it “carry away” your worries while you sleep. While the doll itself is symbolic, it gives children a safe and tangible way to express what they are feeling. We talked about how sharing a worry can help us process it and move through it. We also discussed what to do when a worry still feels heavy, including reaching out to a trusted adult, using coping skills we’ve been learning, and asking for support when we need it.
We were also excited to welcome our guest speaker, Ms. Veronica from Purdue Extension! She led our campers in creating beautiful stained glass window art featuring colorful bugs. Ms. Veronica shared how art can be a wonderful tool when we need to take a break, calm our minds, or work through difficult feelings. Through colors, shapes, and textures, campers were able to express themselves in unique ways while enjoying a peaceful and creative activity.
In addition to our art project, Ms. Veronica introduced campers to some of the many opportunities available through 4-H. The kids learned that 4-H offers so much more than they may realize, including projects in art, science, leadership, animals, and more. A huge thank you to Ms. Veronica and Purdue Extension for spending part of your day with us and helping our campers learn, create, and grow. We can’t wait to see what Day 4 brings! 🎨💚
