This is a hard post but there wouldn’t be this… if there hadn’t been you. 🧡

My love for rescuing cats began when I was 15 with my first rescue, Holt. I had him for more than 15 years, and losing him broke my heart so deeply that it took six years before I could bring myself to own another cat.

Then, in 2013, I found a tiny six-week-old kitten abandoned and afraid in a box on the side of the road.

Zombie. 🧡🤍

He became my world—and taught me that loving again was worth the risk of someday grieving again. More than that, he awakened something in me. Rescue wasn’t simply something I had done. It was part of who I was.

On October 26, 2019, we unexpectedly lost Zombie during emergency surgery. Our entire family was devastated. Even now, his loss can catch me completely off guard, and there are moments when I still stop and cry for him with an ache that will probably always live somewhere inside me.

But Zombie left me an extraordinary gift.

He taught me to keep loving anyway.

To rescue the next one. To open the door again. To understand that grief is sometimes the price we pay for giving an animal our whole heart and the answer isn’t to love less.

That lesson became part of the foundation of Crystal Hollow.

Every little face you see in this video is part of Zombie’s legacy.

Someday, when I finally have my little farm and a peaceful pet cemetery for our sanctuary residents, there will be a statue of Zombie watching over them.

Because I like to think we have an arrangement.

I look after the wayward ones while they’re here. When they cross the veil, Zombie takes over for me.

I have them on this side. He has them in the great beyond.

So this one is for you, Zombie.

My baby. My heartbreak. My teacher. And one of the quiet founders of a sanctuary you never lived long enough to see—but helped create nonetheless.

There truly wouldn’t be this if there hadn’t been you. 🧡💜🖤

Meet Kiryu, one of the brightest lights in the Crystal Hollow family.

At just 3–4 weeks old, tiny Kiryu was found cowering in the middle of a busy four lane highway, terrified as cars drove past him on both sides. That trembling little baby was swept up from the road and brought straight to safety at Crystal Hollow.

Kiryu needed round-the-clock care—bottle feedings, warmth, safety, and lots of love. And boy, did he thrive.

He grew into the most playful, cuddly, silly little piggy—and believe me, this boy LOVES to eat. He bonded deeply with his momma and became a constant shadow and companion.

These days, Kiryu may not be the baby of Crystal Hollow anymore (he has been thoroughly bumped from that position), but he’ll always be my baby. He fills the sanctuary with joy, mischief, cuddles, and so much love.

Kiryu is a beautiful reminder that sometimes rescue is simply about being in the right place, at the right moment, and choosing to stop.

From a terrified kitten in the middle of the road to a very loved, very spoiled member of the Crystal Hollow family. 💜🖤

A little Momma update: I’ve had additional complications from surgery and could use lots of thoughts and prayers while I recover. Hopefully, Momma and the Crystal Hollow page will be back up and going soon. Thank you for your patience, love, and for sticking with our little sanctuary family.
