Most IGs that come into rescue are “middle aged” (6-9 years old) or seniors (10+ years). On the rare occasions when we have a puppy released to us, we are careful to place them in a home with IG or sighthound experience. Italian Greyhounds are difficult to housetrain and young IGs are prone to expensive leg breaks. There is currently a waiting list for dogs under 2 years of age. The wait time can be a year or more. Another way to locate an IG pup is to contact a reputable breeder. Here is a link to reputable breeder referrals from the Italian Greyhound Club. Adoption Tip: Submit an application to adopt even if you haven't identified a dog you may be interested in. Many dogs who come into Rescue go to homes who have already been approved. And once approved, many volunteer to foster. This gives approved adopters an opportunity to get to know a dog and whether or not the or she is a good fit for their family.
