We’re proud to launch our new naloxone distribution project with Live4Lali, and grateful to Journeys The Road Home for hosting our first box!
People experiencing homelessness face a much higher risk of fatal overdose. One large study found an overdose death rate 12 times higher than the general population, with opioids involved in 91% of those deaths.
Stigma Buster: Substance use is not the leading cause of homelessness (affordable housing is). National data classify only about 15% of people experiencing homelessness as experiencing chronic substance use.
Residents and staff at Journeys now have free access to naloxone they can carry and use to help save a life. A special shoutout to advocates Chelsea Laliberte Barnes and Anne Campbell for all of their work on this!

❓ What is naloxone?
Naloxone is a life-saving antidote which rapidly reverses an opiod overdose, such as fentanyl, herion, and perscription opiods. It's a safe medication, meaning it's not addictive and does not cause effects in those not experiencing an overdose.
Naloxone (often referred to as brand name Narcan) has become more widespread in public consciousness since it prevents opiod overdose deaths, as almost 40% of overdose deaths have a bystander present. Like an epipen, naxolone is a layer of protection that saves lives and does not encourage opiod use.
