October is down syndrome awareness month!!
So what is is down syndrome. It is a genetic condition caused by a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. Down syndrome does affect roughly 1 in every 775 babies born. How can we support our friends with down syndrome? Well, you could advocate for inclusive work places, strive for community participation, and listening/ learning from advocates. All voices matter, all abilities matter.

Our Chili & Craft fundraiser was a real hit! We decorated so many beautiful wreaths and had plenty of delicious chili to go around. 🌶️🍂

Congratulations to Michelle, whose BBQ chili won the cook-off! 🏆 Thank you to everyone who came out and supported Voices for All Abilities. We can’t wait to see you at our next event! ❤️

Alex, our VFAB secretary, had the opportunity to visit The Studios and see the creativity, talent, and community they’re building. 🎨✨

We’re excited to share that a new program will be joining Voices for All Abilities at the beginning of the new year! We’re looking forward to this opportunity and will share more details as everything comes together.

Nevada families: Your voice can help shape special education support across our state!

The Nevada Department of Education is inviting families of students who receive special education services to participate in a family focus group. Families will have a welcoming space to share what helps them feel informed, respected, and involved, and to review Nevada’s family survey.

President of Voices for All Abilities will be attending the Tuesday, October 27 session from 2:00–3:30 p.m. If you’d like to attend the same session, please select that time when you sign up. I’d love to see more parent voices represented!

Participation is voluntary and confidential. Feedback will be summarized without identifying you, your child, or your school. This is a statewide initiative organized through Sigma Associates, not directly by Nye County School District.
