The Paden City Garden Club played in the dirt May 15 and planted flowers in the barrels on Main St - we had fun while doing the planting! Thanks to all who helped - now for almost 6 months of watering! We planted red, white and bluish flowers this year in honor of 250th year of our great country the USA! God bless America!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

🪴Calling all Paden City history lovers, storytellers, and memory keepers 🪴

As work continues on restoring and touching up the historic Main Street mural in town, more information is being gathered about the businesses and buildings originally painted into it. Old photographs, memories, visual details, stories, or even tiny pieces of local “lore” are especially being searched for about places such as:

• Michael’s Ice Cream Parlor
• The old Esso Service Station
• Meek’s Place
• Heedy’s Beer
• Huffman’s Paints
• Other downtown storefronts and upstairs apartments from the 1950s era

Progress has recently begun on the downtown buildings section of the mural, making this the perfect time to gather more references and community memories before moving further into the details. The goal of this project is to restore and refresh the mural while staying as faithful as possible to the original artist’s design and layout. Some of the building perspectives and proportions in the original painting were already stylized or slightly imperfect, so care is being taken to preserve the mural’s original character while also cleaning it up and helping it feel fresh again! Even the smallest memory could help bring the mural back to life in a more meaningful and accurate way. It is hoped that this restoration feels connected to the people who actually remember these places and stories!!

Please feel free to comment with photos, memories, names, corrections, or anything else you may remember or message privately if preferred. Some of the lettering and details on the mural have faded over time, so any help correctly identifying businesses and visual details would be truly appreciated.

This sunset view of Paden City was captured by local photographer Zachary Yost, a Paden City High School graduate from the Class of 2011! Zach now works as a mail carrier, traveling the same streets shown here each day. This photo was taken on June 17, 2024 using a drone to capture our town along the river. There is something special about seeing a familiar place from a new perspective, and we are grateful to be able to share this view of Paden City with you.

The Paden City Garden Club has been busy on Main Street. Thanks to Charlie and Joe for their hard work at the Post Office they did a great job refurbishing the mulch and w**d barrier cloths! Here’s to hoping for a w**dless season at both spots! Stay tuned and watch for the flower planting in barrels on Main St soon we hope it inspires to others to plant lots of pretty flowers and spiff up our lovely little town!🌸🌼🌹💐🌷🌻
