Did you know that May is Hepatitis Awareness month?

We recently tested 75 people for Hepatitis C, and 6 of those individuals tested positive. It’s here, in your community, and it might even be in you.

A lot of people don’t realize they have Hepatitis C because it often doesn't have symptoms for decades. At that point, the damage to your liver is already done.

Getting tested has never been easier now that we are providing FREE hepatitis C testing and treatment. Get tested and help us get the word out to make our communities healthier!

People in all six of the counties we serve (Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Tate, Calhoun, and Yalobusha) can access it, so let your friends and family know, too!

Visit our website to learn more/sign up for testing: https://www.communicarems.org/hepatitis-c-testing-and-treatment

When the subtle mental health check-in accidentally becomes a compliment. Still counts!!💚

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re reminded that connection matters and that the right support can make something that once felt out of reach feel possible again.

Whether someone needs encouragement, resources, or simply a place to start, they deserve care that meets them where they are.

If you or someone you love is struggling, we’ll pull up a chair.

Mental health care and substance use prevention belong in the same conversation because people’s needs are often connected. More than 1 in 4 adults with serious mental health conditions also experiences a substance use issue. Whole-person care is like the sandwich: it works because the right layers come together to support the person as a whole.

We are excited to announce that our April Employee of the Month was Mary Maxcy! Serving as a CCBHC Care Coordinator, Mary spends her days assessing clients and reviewing labs, medications, and dietary plans. She also handles coordinating care through phone calls and emails as well as referrals to specialists and appointment set-up.

Motivated by her clients and her faith, Mary approaches each day with a wealth of compassion and describes her work at Communicare as the most rewarding work she has ever done. She also emphasizes the incredible work of the CCBHC team and how supportive they are.

Outside of work, Mary is passionate about functional medicine and alternative therapies, especially the impact lifestyle and dietary changes can have on overall health.

When she’s not at work, she loves spending time with her teenage son, Hudson, and cheering on Ole Miss football as a devoted fan!

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and while there’s always room for growth, it’s important to celebrate the wins, too.

Several of our staff just returned from NAMI Mississippi’s Together Toward Tomorrow conference, where they both learned about and contributed to continuing mental health progress in Mississippi.

Through collaboration between state agencies, community mental health centers like Communicare, and organizations across Mississippi, our state has made MAJOR progress in mental health care and crisis response.

Mississippi has gone from ranking 50th in the country for mental health to 28th, and our 988 Crisis Lifeline currently has the highest in-state answer rate in the nation. That means more Mississippians in crisis are reaching real people, right here at home, when they need support most.

If you’re struggling this month (or any month) know that someone is there to listen and help connect you with support. Call or text 988.
