11 cats and kittens have left the Bonner Springs Animal Control Facility for the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City this week, where they’ll have the opportunity to find their forever homes. The remaining kittens are scheduled to follow soon. 🥳
For a brief, beautiful moment, the Animal Control Unit thought they had it all: Empty cages. Breathing room. A break. 🥹….They were cute for thinking that. 😑🤣
The Cat Distribution System has simply switched demographics.
The kittens are moving out. The injured senior citizens are moving in. Two, in less than 24 hours 🙀🙀
👵🏽Senior #1: Extreme Makeover — Animal Control Edition
This senior lady was found in a neighborhood, looking like she’d had a very rough year.
She was severely matted and was suffering from several festering puncture wounds that were covered by matted hair. We’ll spare you the full details, but you can do the math 🫣….. 🌞+🪰+🐈+🩸=🪱
She received a full veterinary exam, medication, wound care, and a brand new haircut to finally relieve her of years worth of painful matting.
👴🏼 Senior #2: Sir, Why Are You Lying in the Road?
While the ACO was already en route to the vet with Senior #1, Officer Tapia responded to a report of a cat lying motionless in/near the roadway. (THANK YOU to the 14 year old Good Samaritan who urged their parent to call for help!)
Officer got him safe and comfortable at the shelter, ACO made a quick detour to intercept their newest passenger and he earned himself a same day veterinary appointment.
Physically he appears to be okay, but he has clearly suffered some type of head injury. He received medication, a desperately needed flea treatment.
Both seniors spent the week at the Bonner Springs Animal Control Facility under observation where they received a quiet, comfortable space to heal and recover.
The best news of the week: Senior #1 “Tiger Lilly” was reunited with her family today after going missing 1 1/2 years ago. 🙀 She is 19 years old. 🥹
Friends of Bonner Springs Animal Control helps bridge the gap between city funding and the veterinary care and supplies needed for animals like these two. If you’d like to help us continue providing care to whichever medical disaster wanders through the door next, donations are always greatly appreciated. ❤️🐾
