Our June Grief Hike is this Sunday at 2 PM at Versailles State Park. We will be hiking Shadow Run. Please meet at the pool parking lot at 2 PM.

Reminder: As we mentioned last month, we will be creating a memory board. Feel free to bring a photo of your loved one. Each month, as new hikers join us, we will continue adding pictures.

This will be a meaningful way to remember our loved ones and share their smiles and names with others. đź’›

It’s bittersweet, but we are so happy to announce that Carson’s Observation Point at Versailles State Park is now open. While the space isn’t fully complete—we are still waiting on boulders and a spotting scope—we invite you to come experience it.

Take a walk along the path and pause at Carson’s interpretive sign, something he once dreamed of creating—a place to share his photos and help others discover the wildlife that calls this park home. Then take time to sit and rest on one of the benches near “Carson’s Tree,” a quiet place to reflect and take it all in.

We hope this space brings peace to our community, encourages you to slow down, and reminds you to take in the beauty of the lake, wildlife, and everything this park has to offer.

We are so thankful to the staff at Versailles State Park, Indiana DNR, and the volunteers with RVVF—this would not be possible without each and every one of them. 💛

What an incredible three days! Mandy had the opportunity to spend time with the campers at the Photography in Nature Camp hosted by Genesis Pathways to Success—and what an experience it was.

On Wednesday, the group traveled to Versailles State Park, then returned to the career center where they learned the basics of Photoshop. Thursday brought a trip to Capability Farm, followed by more in-depth Photoshop lessons back at the career center.

On the final day, we wrapped things up with Wandering James Photography, where he spoke to the kids about turning a passion for photography into a career. We also added some fun, hands-on creative opportunities—giving the kids a chance to experiment with lighting effects and even use action figures to create unique and imaginative images.

These kids are like sponges—they soak up every bit of knowledge and catch on so quickly! We can’t wait to see their final prints at the art show on July 25th at the Ripley County Fairgrounds.

Carson was supposed to teach at this camp in the summer of 2024, and sadly, he never got that opportunity. But we will continue to sponsor this event because we know how much it meant to him—and because you never know when you might be inspiring the next great photographer.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s camp. ❤️

June’s photo of the month is one of Carson’s most popular images — Reflection Lake in Mount Rainier National Park, captured by Carson in July 2023 during our whirlwind road trip to visit all the National Parks in Washington State.

As usual for our vacations, we didn’t waste a single ounce of daylight. We had stopped at this same location the evening before, but the wind kept the lake from producing the reflection Carson was hoping for. Carson strongly suggested — maybe “insisted” is the better word — that we come back before sunrise because the water would likely be calm. Thankfully, we listened.

We arrived before daylight and had the entire place to ourselves… except for the INSANE amount of MASSIVE mosquitoes buzzing everywhere. That’s why Carson has his hood up in the photo. Despite the mosquitoes, the morning couldn’t have been more perfect. The weather was beautiful, the sunrise was incredible, and the water was completely still, creating the most breathtaking reflection. It’s so perfect that you can literally turn the image upside down and almost nothing changes… except the trees seem to grow from the sky.

At the time, we had no idea we would have less than a year left with Carson. Looking back now, I truly believe God was working out all of these details to give Carson this moment — and to give us this memory to cherish forever along with the incredible gift of photography he shared with all of us.

Reflection Lake feels like the perfect image for June… halfway through 2026, it’s a reminder to pause and reflect on what truly matters in life.

If I remember correctly, Carson created this final image by combining three separate shots so he could keep the foreground, middle, and background all perfectly in focus before stitching them together in his editing software. He was completely self-taught, which still amazes me. It’s incredible what someone can learn when they put in the effort — especially when paired with a true God-given talent.

Because of the calendar’s aspect ratio, we unfortunately had to crop out the wildflowers from Carson’s original image, but I wanted to share the full version here so everyone could enjoy it exactly as he captured it.

We get asked frequently if his images are for sale. Yes, they are. All proceeds go directly to the Carson Hughes Foundation. You can visit his website:

So thankful for the opportunity to share with these kids about Carson and his foundation.

I love the students response… “His pictures were so beautiful… it felt like it took us into a quiet, happy place.”

To Carson, that would have been the best compliment regarding his photography… he wanted you to feel like you were sitting there with him as he captured the moment.

🦦🦦It’s WORLD OTTER DAY! 🦦🦦

We can’t let the day go by without sharing Carson’s most popular otter picture, “Breakfast Time”.

This picture won the Indiana 9th District Congressional Art Competition in 2024. It was submitted on Carson’s behalf by his art teacher, Stacy Gray.

We had to ship the framed image to Washington DC before the ceremony, and it happened to arrive on World Otter Day. 🦦🤟🏼

“Breakfast Time” hung in the Cannon Tunnel in Washington DC for nearly a year before making its way back home to Osgood.

Who else has a “Breakfast Time” in your home or office?!? ✋

Last, but certainly not least…

Jac-Cen-Del Scholarship awards night is by far the most emotional of all the awards.

We are honored to award Lanie Narwold a $1000 scholarship in Carson’s honor.

Go do great things Lanie! We will be praying for you and the entire class of 2026.

We want to take a moment to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

When we were in Washington, DC for the ceremony of Carson’s “Breakfast Time” picture being hung in the Cannon Tunnel, we had the opportunity to tour the city. One place that truly spoke to my heart was the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Seeing the names of so many young men—just 18 and 19 years old—who gave their lives for our country was overwhelming.

In that moment, I think I realized something that grief can sometimes make hard to see… we aren’t the first to lose a child (nor were we the last💔).

When you’re in the depths of sorrow, it can feel like no one else understands that kind of pain. But standing there, surrounded by those names, I was reminded that there are so many mothers and fathers who have walked this road before us.

Whether their children chose to enlist or were drafted, they gave everything.

Today, we honor them. We thank them for their sacrifice. And we thank their parents for raising brave, selfless young men and women who were willing to give all for the good of others.

We remember. Always. 🇺🇸

While this award is always bittersweet, we are incredibly honored to announce that the Jacob and Amanda Yeggy family has been selected to receive a Carson Bucket List Adventure Trip in Carson’s memory.

We were deeply moved by the many heartfelt applications we received, and while each story touched us, something truly special stood out about this deserving family.

The Yeggy family will embark on their adventure in 2027, with the destination to be determined based on the season that works best for everyone. We have a few incredible locations in mind, and we’re excited to choose the perfect one to make this experience unforgettable.

We cannot wait for the Yeggy family to create lasting memories on their Carson Bucket List Adventure.
