We just finished a successful weekend of camping! This was a big event for us. It was the Blue and Gold ceremony for everyone and crossover for the AOLs. All the cubs were presented their belt loops and pins they’ve earned so far. For the AOLs, this was their final ceremony as a cub as they move on to their Troop now!! All 7 AOLs moved on to Troop! We started out the weekend on Friday with the AOLs making their arrows. Then Saturday at camp everyone worked together in some team building obstacles along with lots of exploring and games. Saturday lunch was thanks to the Lions and Tigers. Saturday dinner was thanks to the AOLs. Sunday all the dens put on a skit for the audience before receiving their awards. Congrats to everyone.

We had a great meeting tonight. We started the night with flags brought in by Zach and Wyatt K. Then Ollie was awarded the Resource Stewardship patch for his participation during the trip to Gettysburg this summer. Each group broke up and did their own requirements. AOLs completed their first aid achievement and built their first aide kits. Bears learned about Leaving no Trace as well as personal space and self protection. They also finished their whittling chip requirements. Wolves, Tigers, and Lions learned how to be good knights and live by the Cub Scout law. They made shields and castles out of recycled materials. Overall it was a good time.

Today we had an amazing service with Orwell United Methodist Church and Boy Scout Troop 72 Orwell, LEC celebrating Scout Sunday. This event honors February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as the date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. Thank you to Orwell United Methodist Church for hosting us and for feeding us after! Not only that, they were gracious enough to gift all our scouts, both Cubs and Scouts, with brand new Bibles! It was a truly gracious day.

I apologize for the smiley faces. We don’t have permission to share their faces so we block them out.

A Scout is Reverent.

This is a very interesting annual event hosted by Scouting America. While our Pack isn’t doing anything as a Pack, feel free to participate on your own. This event is honored by attending your normal religious service while in your scouting uniform and being reverent during the service. Typically it’s held on the closest day to Feb 8th but any time in February is considered valid. Patches are available on scoutshop.org for purchase.

Scout Sunday, Scout Sabbath (Shabbat), and Scout Jumuah are faith based celebrations observed each February by Scouting America. These observances highlight the Scout Law point, “A Scout is Reverent,” and provide an opportunity for Scouts to honor their faith, thank their chartered organizations, and share the Scouting program with their religious communities.

The celebrations are typically scheduled around Scouting America’s anniversary on February 8, although exact dates vary by faith tradition and congregations may select a different date to meet their needs. Scout Sunday is usually observed on a Sunday, Scout Sabbath takes place from Friday sunset through Saturday sunset, and Scout Jumuah is observed from Thursday sunset through Friday sunset.

Units are encouraged to use the PowerPoint presentations that are on our Faith Based Celebrations webpage to help share information about their unit and the Scouting program during these observances.

So much fun at jujitsu tonight. We had a huge turn out and the kids had a blast. They learned how to plant their feet and defend themselves against bullies. It was interesting to watch the kids learn the new techniques. They ended the night with a few games of tug of war. What a great time.

We had a blast at the pool party last night. I only took a couple fuzzy pictures. Sorry! Thank you so much for for those that braved the cold weather to come out. The pool was a balmy 85 degrees! Add some hot pizza and delicious sides and desserts, it was perfect. We even got compliments from the hosts about how well mannered and behaved everyone ones. Well done Cubs!
