📚 "Michigan is spending more on schools than ever before."
You've probably heard that statement—and it's true.
But here's what's often left out:
Record funding doesn't automatically mean schools have more buying power.
Just like families, schools have been hit by inflation. The costs of transportation, utilities, employee health insurance, classroom materials, technology, special education services, school safety improvements, and everyday operations have all increased dramatically over the last several years.
That means districts are often paying more just to provide the same level of education they offered a few years ago.
At the same time, Michigan continues to rank behind many other states in per-pupil funding, making it harder to recruit and retain outstanding educators and provide the opportunities our students deserve.
The Oakland County Regional Enhancement Millage isn't about luxury spending.
It's about helping our schools keep pace with today's realities while investing in student success, school safety, Career & Technical Education, mental health supports, and academic excellence.
Our students shouldn't fall behind simply because the cost of educating them keeps rising.
Let's give Oakland County schools the tools they need to prepare every child for success.
