✨ Orrville Rotary Welcomes Sacred Ground ✨
At our meeting on Tuesday, March 3, the Orrville Rotary Club welcomed Sarah Ecker, Director of Development for Sacred Ground, who shared about the incredible work their organization is doing to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families across Wayne, Holmes, and Tuscarawas Counties.
Founded in 2017, Sacred Ground is a faith-based nonprofit that provides day programming, transportation, life skills training, and community engagement opportunities for participants. Today the organization serves over 70 individuals with a team of 23 staff members, maintaining a strong 1:3 staff-to-participant ratio to ensure personalized support.
Participants learn practical life skills like cooking, gardening, budgeting, and job readiness while also spending time in the community at local businesses. Sacred Ground even operates a mobile coffee shop, where participants help serve specialty drinks at community events!
Transportation is a major part of their work. With 10 accessible vans (and two new ones recently added), staff pick participants up directly from their homes and bring them to programming locations.
Sacred Ground also hosts Respite Nights, giving caregivers a chance for a night out while participants enjoy games, themed activities, and social time. Volunteers are always welcome to help with these events.
