Let go in gratitude
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Col. 3:15
Say “thank you” to several people today. They will be surprised and you will be enriched. Your gratefulness is contagious. It increases the warmth in an otherwise drafty room. It speeds up healing in a soul wondering if it has any value. It lowers barriers once manned by previous slights and veteran grudges. Thankfulness moves people to continue on when their spirit is beginning to sag.
Give spontaneous thanks. Do not look for a compliment in return. This is not about you receiving something you desire. It is providing something another may desperately require. Leave the gift of your thanks with another without a lot of explanation. Sow it as a seed with fervor. It is an environmental enhancement that changes perceptions and recognizes potential. Give it whether it is deserved or not in your mind’s estimation. God will use it to bring about something good for you and the other person.
Look for the small things done by another that are rarely recognized. Look for the small people often ignored. Acknowledge the tiniest of actions. Highlight the hidden ones often overlooked in the hallways of recognition. Lift up their day by actually noticing what they do as important and valuable. Be specific about your heart’s gratitude. Most are walking around and working tirelessly with little reward given for their loyalty and faithfulness. You can be used by God today to enrich their lives for many tomorrows.
Present your gratefulness with no personal motives attached. It is an investment all its own which will bring greater returns. Your gratitude births something fresh and new in your own heart as it is released. Turn loose a typhoon of thankfulness and your own tank will be refueled again and again.
Today, there is little more powerful talk than an unexpected “thanks.”
