June (Cota) Anderson was born in Orono in 1926. The 10th of 13 children, she grew up in the Tough End during the depression and WW2. Her parents believed in the importance of family and community, lessons that June followed her entire life. She married her high school sweetheart, Keith Anderson, in 1946 and they began a life together in Orono.

June was a pillar of our community for decades. She was instrumental in helping with the town’s heating assistance program, active in school events, a long time member of the Historical Society and always available to lend a helping hand. She loved Orono, and until she died at age 97 in 2023, she was one of the town’s biggest advocates.

Join the historical society as we remember June this Saturday! Memorial tree planting at 10 am, next to the community gardens by the library parking lot. Part of the Orono Festival festivities.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING TONIGHT!

Anyone recognize the young actors in the photo? We think it’s from the mid-late 1950’s. Comment below if you know who they are- OR- to see the picture in person come to the next meeting of the historical society! We meet tonight, Tuesday August 4th, at 6:30 at the Birch Street School (behind the library and below the Thrift Shop).

There is a free concert at 6 on the green behind the library. Come early for a good parking space, enjoy the music and then dance over to the meeting. Hope to see you tonight!
