Our guest speaker at the April monthly members meeting was Sharon Vasickanin with Project Linus, a volunteer-driven organization that provides handmade blankets to children facing serious challenges such as illness, trauma, loss, or displacement. Each blanket is created with care to offer comfort, security, and something a child can call their own during difficult times. Locally, the group supports children through partnerships with organizations like Halifax Health, Easter Seals, and One Ohana One Community.
The chapter operates entirely through donations of time, materials, and funding. Volunteers—known as “blanketeers”—create fleece blankets, quilts, and knitted or crocheted items, which are carefully inspected and distributed to children in need. Monthly deliveries provide dozens of blankets to local hospitals, and additional support is given for special circumstances such as house fires or grief programs.
Community members can get involved by making blankets, donating supplies like yarn or fabric, or organizing group efforts through churches, clubs, or local organizations. Every contribution directly supports children in crisis, providing not just warmth, but comfort and reassurance when it matters most.
