It's been a minute, but we haven't forgotten!
Our Artist Highlight for this week is Caleb Stephan.
Caleb is a singer, songwriter, poet, and lover of all things deep. His songs carry a common sense of wrestling with the "already" and "not yet" that we as believers experience every day.
His piece "Marigold". echos this theme, as he sings a about the tendency to chase after temporary things to fill us, though our hearts beckon us towards God. We can all relate to to this, as it began in the garden and changed humanity forever, but Caleb's song reminds us that God is never-changing, ever-present, and can satisfy all our needs if only we come to Him.
Take a look at the lyrics below and swipe to hear some of this piece:
"dear marigold fields
wrapped in your fragility
dressed up just enough to stay pretty
I fell into you
with your golden complexion
and the fragrance you're masked in
it's so easy to forget
that you're here today but gone the next
oh mangrove shores
I once swam through your tangled roots
and found beneath your mire held truth
but I held my breath
as your waters started to climb
I think I drank too much of your brine
felt it sour inside
still I easily forget
that you're here today but gone the next
regress and relapse
cause I don't wanna wait
hoping something I drank
can just fill in all the gaps
of these cracks that run deep
from the tension I keep
when I ignore all my dreams
and every good ache
they're just something I hate
but I'm bursting at the seams
I've been keeping it down
all the bile I've found
trying to run from everything
ruffles like sunset
that honor the dead
I just misplaced
all the grace in your breath
stilts that support
above estuaries
I know your roots
but forgot all your leaves
my Comforter
I've neglected Your peace
is all my pain
something I can release?
holding out my hand
can You take it again?
be the stillness I crave
when all that I see are waves
let me not forget
that You're here today and still the next"
