When we think of Mary, we often picture her crowned in glory, surrounded by angels and clothed with heavenly beauty. Yet before the crown came the cross and before the glory came the sorrow.
Immaculate Heart of Mary was not spared from suffering. it was pierced seven times by repeated sorrows that accompanied her journey as the Mother of Jesus.
She suffered when Simeon foretold that a sword would pierce her soul. She suffered when she fled into Egypt to protect the Child Jesus. She suffered when she lost Him in Jerusalem for three days. She suffered as she watched her innocent Son carry the Cross. She suffered as she stood helplessly beneath that Cross. She suffered as she received His lifeless body into her arms. And she suffered when she laid Him in the tomb.
Yet Mary never turned away from God.
Her sorrows did not make her bitter, they made her faithful. They didn't destroy her hope, they deepened her trust. Through every tear, she remained united to God's will.
This Sorrows remind us that holiness does not mean a life without pain. It means remaining faithful in the midst of pain. Mary teaches us that our sufferings, when united with Christ, can become a path to grace, healing, and redemption.
If your heart is burden look unto the Sorrowful Mother. She understands grief. She understands loss. She understands the silent tears that no one else sees.
And because she understands, she intercedes for us with a mother's love.
