🎓 Master MSICS and restore sight with a world-class team. 🇭🇳

In Honduras, access to high-quality eye care and advanced surgeries is incredibly limited. For families who have very little, a diagnosis like a dense cataract can mean a permanent loss of independence. But it does not have to be that way.

Through the ACE Global MSICS training course at San Benito Jose in Comayagua, Honduras, visiting ophthalmologists work directly alongside brilliant local surgeons and fellows to master Manual Small-Incision Cataract Surgery. It is a high-level, collaborative learning environment where you do more than just refine a surgical technique; you help build permanent, local surgical capacity that restores sight for generations.

Operating in a new country can feel daunting, but as Dr. Miles Greenwald shares in the video, the local team makes you feel at home the moment you land. You will work inside modern, well-equipped operating rooms, supported by dedicated scrub techs and coordinators who ensure every surgical day runs seamlessly.

From extensive practical experience to deep community relationships, this is a medical mission that will change your perspective as a surgeon! We are currently accepting applications for our upcoming MSICS training weeks and teaching travel teams.

Happy 4th of July from all of us at ACE Global! 🎇

Today, as we celebrate freedom and independence here at home, we are reflecting on what independence means to the communities we serve around the world.

For millions of people living with treatable blindness, independence begins with a simple, life-changing procedure. It means a grandparent seeing their grandchild’s face for the first time. It means a parent returning to work to support their family, or a young child finally being able to go to school.

When you support ACE Global, you aren't just funding surgeries and eye screenings, you are restoring independence, dignity, and hope to underserved communities. We are incredibly grateful for our dedicated volunteers and generous donors who make this freedom possible every single day.

Wishing you a safe and beautiful holiday with family and friends!

June is , but for millions of people living in underserved communities across Central America, cataracts aren't just a medical diagnosis; they are a life sentence of unnecessary blindness.

Right now, a global vision crisis is hiding in plain sight. In places like Honduras, access to basic eye surgical care is deeply limited, leaving entire families trapped in cycles of poverty simply because a parent or grandparent can no longer see.
But there is hope, and it is being built from within.

Meet Dr. F***y Martinez. She’s an ophthalmologist from Nicaragua who this month joined ACE Global in Honduras as one of our newest surgical fellows. Dr. Martinez is stepping onto the front lines of this fight, dedicated to mastering specialized surgical techniques so she can return to underserved regions and restore sight to those who need it most.

💬 "Even though we come from different countries and we have different backgrounds, we share the same goal, which is to help people through eye care."

We don't just send temporary aid. By investing in young, passionate Latin American eye surgeons like Dr. Martinez, we are building a permanent, sustainable shield against preventable blindness.

You can stand behind these heroes. Your support funds the intensive training, advanced medical equipment, and clinical resources our fellows need to change lives every single day.

Let’s end unnecessary blindness together.

Another incredible week for our Teaching Travel Team in Comayagua, Honduras! 🇭🇳✨

True sustainable change in global eye care doesn't just come from performing surgeries; it comes from sharing knowledge. This week was a beautiful masterclass in mentorship and collaboration across specialties.

In Oculoplastics, visiting surgeon Dr. Ryan Scruggs led the charge, backed by the incredible guidance of Dr. David Silva and former fellow Dra. Nicolle Ruiz. Meanwhile, Dr. Sharmila Segar headed up our Pediatric Ophthalmology team, bringing vital care to some of our youngest patients.

While our current fellows spent the week sharpening their specialized skills, we also welcomed two brand-new fellows to the ACE Global family: Dra. Andrea Cecilia Berríos Ferrufino (Oculoplastics) and Dr. F***y Marla Martínez Zambrana (Anterior Segment)! 👏

Dra. Cecilia and Dra. F***y joined the teams in the operating room, experiencing firsthand the deep support, real-time mentorship, and encouragement that our travel teams bring when they visit. By investing in these brilliant local doctors, we aren't just treating blindness today; we're ensuring high-quality eye care is available for generations to come.

Thank you to our incredible volunteers, donors, and partners who make these teaching missions possible. Your support keeps our teams moving and learning. 💙

This Memorial Day, we at ACE Global pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. Their courage and selflessness represent the very best of the human spirit.

In their memory, we feel a renewed commitment to our own mission: serving others and bringing light where there is darkness. We believe that honoring those who fought for a better world means working tirelessly to improve it. For us, that means ensuring that preventable blindness never stands in the way of a person’s future, no matter where they live.

Today, as we gather with family and friends, let’s hold gratitude in our hearts for our freedoms and the legacies of those we've lost.

Sight. Connection. And a whole lot of heart in Honduras. 🇭🇳

This week at San Benito Jose in Comayagua was... honestly? It was a whirlwind.

We just wrapped up our Cornea and Cataracts teaching mission, and the energy was electric. Imagine three operating rooms humming at once. Imagine the focus, the sweat, and the sheer joy of seeing someone realize they’ll be able to see their family’s faces again. 👁️✨

It’s powerful stuff! But this wasn't just about the surgeries. It was about the people passing the torch.
🫶 Huge love to our visiting surgeons, Drs. Lorrick Andersen, Kaihan Fakhar, Miles Greenwald, and Aaron Noll. They didn't just show up; they poured their expertise into everyone around them.

And we were thrilled to have UIC residents Dr. Jeffrey Peterson and Nayanika Challa, and Greenwald Fellow Dr. Jackson Voss, in the mix, too. They weren't just observing. They were exchanging ideas, learning the grit of global eye care, and seeing firsthand why this work matters so much.

Three local fellows worked side-by-side with the team, which is the best part. Because when we leave, that knowledge stays. The care continues!

We’re growing. We’re learning. And because of people like you, we’re helping our neighbors in Honduras see a future that’s a lot clearer.

Thank you for being part of this. 💙

Congratulations, Dr. Luis Rivera Peralta! 🎓🎉

Yesterday in Comayagua, we gathered to celebrate a truly special milestone: the graduation of our 2025/2026 Anterior Segment Fellow, Dr. Luis Rivera Peralta.

Luis, watching your journey this past year has been nothing short of inspiring. You joined the ACE Global Fellowship with a deep desire to learn, and you leave us as a confident, competent, and truly excellent surgeon.

Beyond the operating room, we’ve seen you blossom into a natural leader. Whether you were navigating difficult cases with poise or mentoring new fellows during recent brigades, your dedication to your craft and your colleagues has been admirable.

What’s next for Luis? He is headed to Hospital San Felipe, where he’ll continue his mission to provide world-class eye care. Even as he graduates, Luis is already dreaming up "big ideas" to expand medical education and give back to the program by teaching the next generation of fellows. This heart for service is exactly why we do what we do.

Luis, your warm personality puts everyone at ease, and your ability to see the "big picture" will serve the people of Honduras well for years to come.

While you’re moving on to a new chapter, remember that you’ll always have an ACE Global family standing behind you. We can't wait to see your career unfold and to catch up at future meetings and visits.

Please join us in the comments by sharing a message of congratulations for Dr. Rivera! 🥂✨

Behind every restored sight through ACE Global is a doctor who chose to look beyond their own clinic and toward a world in need.

Today is National Doctors’ Day, and we are pausing to celebrate the incredible surgeons, mentors, and fellows who make our mission possible. These aren't just medical professionals; they’re educators, pioneers, and often, the first line of hope for someone who has lived in darkness for years.

To our many amazing Volunteer Surgeons and Mentors: Thank you for donating your time and your world-class expertise. You don’t just perform surgeries; you build the foundation for sustainable eye care by sharing your skills with the next generation.

To our dedicated and talented ACE Global Fellows: Your passion for learning and serving underserved communities is inspiring. You are the future of global eye health, and watching your growth, from the first screening to the final follow-up, is a privilege.

When a grandmother sees her grandchildren for the first time in a decade, or a young father returns to work because his vision is restored, it’s because a doctor said "yes" to this mission.

Join us in the comments by sharing a note of thanks for the doctors who give the gift of sight! 👁️✨

What if we could end treatable blindness for good? 🌎

ACE Global's president and co-founder, Dr. Kevin Barber, recently had the opportunity to share his "Big Bet" for the future of global eye care with the Rockefeller Foundation. It’s a bold vision: moving beyond short-term missions to build self-sustaining surgical ecosystems.

Dr. Barber spoke about the critical need to scale eye care in underserved regions. In many of the communities we serve, a 15-minute cataract surgery is the difference between a life of isolation and a life of opportunity. By focusing on sustainable training and local empowerment, we aren't just performing surgeries, we're creating long-term, systemic change.

We are so excited to see ACE Global's mission gaining momentum. Watch the video to hear more about how we’re changing the landscape of global eye care, and how you’re a part of this journey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3m6rux33j0

Dr. Kevin Barber is betting that scalable, technology‑enabled training systems can produce high‑quality eye care providers anywhere in the world, dramaticall...
