Orlando Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Orlando Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The Orlando Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. striving to make an impact upon every community within our service area. H. Baker, Secretary.

On February 20, 1954, under the leadership of Regional Director M. Lucia James and National President Dorothy I. Height, life was breathed into the 56th Chapter of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in Orlando, Florida. Nareda Hunt Coan was instrumental in providing much of the "leg-work," summoning ladies who were interested in becoming members of the Epsilon Gamma Si

gma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. In keeping with the policy of Grand Chapter to designate non-campus based chapters by county, city, or area of chapter location, the name was changed to Orlando Alumnae Chapter in October, 1958. Charter Officers were: Anne Mitchell Felder, President; Nareda W. Hunt, Vice President; Estelle Gordon Banks, Treasurer; and Ida Lorene C. Charter Members included Vivian C. Lee, Adrienne Harrison, Theresa Jenkins, Melva Jacquelyn Perkins, and Sallie T. Benson. The Orlando Alumnae Chapter has increased from nine charter members to over 260 members. The chapter continues to fulfill our Founders' dreams of achieving excellence, providing scholarships, and rendering public service to the community. Over the years, the chapter's major projects include voter registration drives, tutorial services, political awareness forums, and health fairs and seminars. The chapter yearly sponsors the Celebration of Women Brunch and the Minerva Awards, a scholarship presentation. The chapter has adopted local area schools as partners in education, to mentor students and combating illiteracy. A "commitment to serve" is what the Orlando Alumnae Chapter has been recognized for by many community organizations. Several awards, certificates, plaques, and trophies have been received throughout the years. Of those, the chapter received the Order of Hammer Award, National Large Chapter of the Year, and Outstanding Public Service Award from the Walt Disney Company.

Happy !

Today we honor the legacy of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas who were finally informed of their freedom, some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It was those people, and the generations of Texans who came after them, who made the bold declaration to celebrate this day, marking a reality we know far too well in this country: freedom may be delayed, but it will never be denied.

Though our fight for freedom sadly continues, today we pause to celebrate and embrace the joy of our ancestors who believed in the possibilities of a more promising tomorrow. And in that joy, we remain anchored, steadfast in our pursuit of true freedom and justice for all.

Congratulations Soror Dana Rosser!

Get Repost App • Southern Region DST We are concluding our spotlights of the authors for the 2026 Delta Authors on Tour in Nassau, Bahamas this weekend! Today’s spotlights are Dana Rosser, Orlando Alumnae DST Orlando Alumnae Chapter, Michelle Sumrall, MAC of Delta Sigma Theta 🐘 Macon Alumnae Chapter, and Teri Thompson, SM-LAC of ΔΣΘ Sorority, Inc. Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter.

Thru Thick & Thin is for anyone who has ever loved someone through the struggle of obesity. With education and real stories of triumph and resilience, it reminds us that supporting a loved one through their hardest battle requires courage, grace, and the willingness to show up no matter what.

The Bullied, The Bully, and The Bystander is a thought-provoking story that pulls back the curtain on the private struggles of three teens whose lives collide in ways none of them could have predicted. Raw and deeply human, it challenges readers to look beyond appearances and consider how the weight of unseen battles can shape us all.

Congratulations to our authors!
