The goals of this organization are to connect students, faculty and professionals to create networking for emerging urban planners. We wish to network with planners all over Central Florida, providing advice, expertise, and career opportunities for Urban and Regional Planning students at UCF. This will create a mentor relationship between the students and planning professionals. We wish to get involved in conferences, lecture series, and events that are taking place in Central Florida and encourage our members to attend these activities. Lastly, we wish to provide resources and activities for students currently engaged or interested in joining the UCF Urban Planning program.

Get the opportunity to learn more about planning for healthy communities with Urban Knights and the Orlando Metro Section!

On October 27th, we will have a walking tour at one of Orlando’s premier healthcare campuses with professionals in the field of healthcare planning and related planners outside of Orlando Health. This will be a great opportunity to analyze methods for public spaces, walkability, transportation infrastructure, and more! AICP members can earn certification maintenance credits with this walking tour, while Urban Knights students can get a closer look at a niche part of planning.

Thank you to Kimley Horn and all of the attendees for a great open house! This was a great opportunity for students to learn more about the different aspects of planning in a private firm setting and how to best achieve their goals in the field. We also learned more about the diverse backgrounds that contribute to planning, along with valuable advice for students starting their careers!

Next week, we will be hosting the Public Transit Town Hall, in partnership with Sunrise Orlando, on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd! We will also have guest speaker Katherine Lane, who works in the field of sustainability, joining us at the Downtown Campus on Friday, Sept. 25th!

She will talk about her career path in sustainability, the strategies she’s learned that have led to successful projects, and answer questions in regard to the field or her experience!
