🏗️ Building Futures at Scorpio Construction👷🏾‍♂️

Exposure creates opportunity. Our 7th grade cohort had the incredible opportunity to visit Scorpio Construction and get a firsthand look at what it takes to turn ideas, plans, and hard work into the buildings and spaces that shape our communities.

Our scholars were able to explore the world of construction, learn about the different careers within the industry, and see the many skills that go into bringing a project from an idea to reality.

Experiences like this help our scholars understand that there are countless pathways to success and careers they may have never considered before. At MILA, we want our scholars to see it, experience it, and begin envisioning themselves in it.

Exposure creates opportunity. Our 9th grade cohort had the incredible opportunity to tour WCJB TV20 News News and get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring local news to our community.

From the production rooms and studio floor to the editing stations and business offices, our scholars got an inside look at the many moving parts that keep a news station running—and the wide range of career opportunities available in the media industry.

Experiences like this allow our scholars to explore careers, ask questions, and see possibilities they may have never considered before. We’re grateful to WCJB for opening your doors and giving our scholars such a valuable experience!

To be a star first you must train like a champion🏆

Becoming a great athlete doesn’t start under the bright lights but it starts with the work you put in when nobody is watching.

Our 7th grade cohort had the opportunity to visit D1 Training Gainesville | Sports & Fitness and experience firsthand what it takes to train like a D1 athlete💪🏾

With Work Ethic being one of MILA’s five core principles, experiences like this help our scholars understand that success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes discipline, consistency, sacrifice, and a willingness to put in the work.

We want our scholars to not only dream about becoming the athletes they see on TV, but to understand the commitment it takes to turn those dreams into reality.

Every place has a story to tell, and every step through history is an opportunity to learn, grow, and build a stronger future

As part of our commitment to Exposure, our 9th grade scholars had the opportunity to visit the Micanopy Historical Society Museum, where they explored the rich history of one of Florida’s oldest inland towns and gained a deeper appreciation for the people, places, and stories that have shaped our community.

Experiences like these encourage our scholars to think beyond the classroom, connect with the world around them, and understand the importance of preserving history for future generations.

Building tomorrow’s leaders starts with connecting them to today’s leaders

During this summer’s program, our 7th grade cohort had the opportunity to visit the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, where they learned how the Chamber supports local businesses, strengthens our community, and helps create opportunities for growth and success.

Our scholars also enjoyed lunch while engaging in meaningful conversations about leadership, careers, and the importance of community involvement.

Exposure creates opportunity & Exploration is one of the greatest teachers

This summer, our 7th grade scholars had the opportunity to explore the Santa Fe Bat Caves with Dr. Vertigo Moody, Chair of the Natural Sciences Department at Santa Fe College.

For many, it was their first time exploring a cave. They learned about its role in our ecosystem, how it was formed, and the exciting career opportunities within the natural sciences.

At MILA, we believe exposure helps our scholars see beyond what’s familiar and inspires them to dream bigger about their future.
