FAAJA (Florida Asian American Justice Alliance) is an organization born out of the unity and resilience of the Asian community. On April 19th, a historic day, etched in our memories, we stood together against discriminatory bills that aimed to restrict our land ownership rights. Fueled by our determination, over a hundred Chinese individuals from across Florida rallied in Tallahassee, the state ca
pital, to testify against these unjust laws. We felt the weight of powerlessness. It was in that moment, outside the State Capitol, that FAAJA was conceived, a non-partisan, non-profit C4 organization. Bring awareness to the Chinese and Asian community, especially younger generation, to be more politically involved. 2. Unite other Asian communities and ethnic groups to advocate for equality and fight against discrimination. 3. Support state and local officials and legislators who represent the best interest of our community. Over the past two months, we have made significant strides in our mission to fight for justice and equality. Here is a list of our major achievements since FAAJA was born. We organized protests, participated in hearings, and issued press releases to shed light on the discriminatory bills. We united six major cities across Florida in a statewide rally, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to combat discrimination and injustice. We have also reached out to reputable national law firms and nonprofit organizations to garner support for a lawsuit, initiated by CALDA (Chinese American Legal Defense Alliance), that aims to overturn this discriminatory law. CALDA, with the ACLU and other national legal organizations, filed lawsuit and preliminary injunction with the court, and they are scheduled for a hearing in July. To ensure the effectiveness and longevity of our mission, FAAJA has established a board of directors. We have formed three committees: one dedicated to civic engagement and alliance with other ethnic groups, which aims to educate Asian Americans on voting and political participation; another focused on youth development, providing a platform for the next generation to become leaders; and finally, a political committee that identifies and supports legislators and politicians who prioritize our community's best interests. Our involvement extends beyond protests and legal battles. We actively participate in meetings with state legislators, county officials, and city government representatives. Moreover, by initiating interviews to select state legislative candidates in Central and South Florida, we ensure that our community has a voice at every level of government. However, our work doesn't stop there. FAAJA recognizes that SB 264 is not an isolated incident. Our community has faced and may continue to face challenges. Therefore, we are dedicated to raising awareness and empowering the Asian community to be more politically involved. We will forge alliances with different ethnic and interest groups, fostering an environment of collaboration and education. By inviting government departments, judiciary representatives, and others to provide lectures to our members, we aim to increase interaction and knowledge within our community. Additionally, FAAJA is committed to cultivating leadership for next generation. We will organize college and high school students, providing them with firsthand experience and exposure, to volunteer in local government departments. We will organize debates and various leadership development activities to empower the next generation of Asian American leaders. Our political committee will analyze the backgrounds of legislators in various districts. Through lectures and campaign events, we will support those who genuinely represent the interests of our Asian community. We will also start a podcast that is neutral not party specific and focuses on celebrating Asian Americans culture, lifestyle, education, welfare, business, health, uplifting new generation confidence, and many more. We acknowledge that the road ahead is long and challenging. Similar bills targeting Asian Americans have been proposed in numerous states. However, in states where Asian American legislators hold greater influence, such bills are often rejected or significantly amended. Florida, unfortunately, was the first state to pass a stringent bill, SB 264. This reality has only strengthened our resolve to take practical action and improve the political status of our community. Together, we must stand in solidarity with other communities and groups, joining forces to fight against discrimination in all its forms. Our battle is not only for ourselves but for future generations, who deserve a society free from prejudice and injustice. Please join FAAJA in our pursuit of justice, equality, and empowerment. By becoming a member, you can become an agent of change and amplify our collective voice and impact. Together, we can shape a better future, where no one's rights are trampled upon, and every voice is heard. Let us not forget the lessons we learned on that historic April day. Let us rise above powerlessness and embrace the power of unity, determination, and action. Join FAAJA today and let us create a brighter future together for the Asian American community.
