I’m so beyond proud of this young woman.

With her permission to share—my mentee of the past four years, Afsara Astra, is graduating. With honors. And she’s been accepted to USF.

We celebrated her at the graduation ceremony, where—thanks to the incredible support of Florida Prepaid College Foundation—every student in the 2026 cohort received a four-year scholarship.

And I’ll be honest, I cried along with the students and families....

Because this isn’t just about tuition. It’s about freedom. It’s about breathing room. It’s about peace of mind. For some of these students, it means breaking generational cycles and being the first in their family to step into something entirely new.

If you’ve ever even casually thought about mentoring—do it. It’s been one of the most meaningful things I’ve done and the bond you build doesn’t end when the program does. Thank you Take Stock in Children- Orange County for brokering these relationships and supporting these kids.

We are still celebrating this life changing surprise! 💙🎓

Take Stock in Children partnered with College Foundation for a truly unforgettable celebration last Wednesday as students, families, and mentors gathered to recognize an incredible milestone.

What began as a graduation ceremony honoring our students quickly turned into an emotional moment of joy and surprise when students learned their scholarships would now cover four years of college instead of two. Families cheered, students embraced one another, and proud mentors watched as their students received their Take Stock medallions and certificates of achievement recognizing the bright futures ahead of them.

Bethany Lacey, CEO of Take Stock in Children, made the surprise announcement and Brian Lewis, who represented the Florida Prepaid College Foundation, shared inspiring words of partnership as attendees celebrated this incredible moment together.

It was more than a Take Stock graduation. It was a reminder of what opportunity, support, and belief in our students can create. ✨
