While we’ve been taking an extended break for COVID-19, we believe it’s important we all use our platforms to acknowledge the events our country is currently facing.
I’ve definitely struggled to find the right thing to say throughout these events. It feels as though it’s all been said, so what do I have to contribute to the conversation? Everything’s already being done and said.
This has consistently been my mindset over the years when reading about another black man oppressed by the system. I’m not racist. I love my black friends. But there’s nothing I can do. People will post about it for a week, the news cycle ends, and the privileged among us forget until it happens again. And again, and again, and again.
I realize now I’ve entirely been a part of the problem. That it is not enough to not be racist, that we must actively be anti-racist, loud and with pride. Use your voice to force change.
I stand with the black community.
