September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month. According to Blood Cancer United (formerly the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society), a person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer every three minutes- almost 190,000 diagnoses every year!
Those patients with blood cancer can sometimes use a boost to their blood during the course of their treatment in the form of receiving blood from a healthy donor. As different cancers have a different requirement for certain blood components, each blood donation can save up to three lives!
For those that are able, please consider donating blood at a collection center near you. With a current blood shortage in the Orlando area, your donation is truly lifesaving.
