ANNOUNCEMENT

OGSGS will add Orangeburgh District Pedigree Certification and the Orangeburgh District DNA Project to our mission statement.

Certification to Orangeburgh District ancestors and the First Families of Orangeburgh will be proven by a direct line ahnentafel ancestor table used for presenting direct lineage. According to Mills (2001), “ascending (Ahnentafel or Sosa-Stradonitz) compilations are familiar to all genealogists and follow a numbering system used by virtually every ancestor chart in paper and electronic form … it is a type far easier to compile and easier for families to comprehend, and equally appropriate for article and books” (p. 454). Once approved, direct line pedigrees will be published in the OGSGS Newsletter. Stratton & Hoff (2014) noted, “an ahnentafel presents a direct line of ancestors, beginning at or near the present time and going back to the earliest known ancestor” (p.19). Members who certify their Orangeburgh lineage will receive a certificate of pedigree from OGSGS. Present to past direct orangeburgh ancestor certification requirements, forms, and options for proof will be posted on the website, social media, and in the newsletter at a later date.

Dear OGSGS Members,

Would you like to connect your DNA to your Orangeburg family pedigree? As I mentioned in my last letter, our Orangeburg District DNA project becomes more useful as our families continue to connect through DNA results. At this time, we do not have full lineage information for many participants. “Access to pedigrees is restricted to project members who have submitted their pedigrees.” (OGSGS, 2017) Our project administrators encourage project participants to provide full lineage information. For FTDNA or autosomal transfer, please contact Margaret Waters [email protected] to submit your pedigree. For y-DNA and mtDNA please contact Jim Rickenbacker [email protected] to submit your pedigree.

Please see the following Pedigree and Lineage page on the OGSGS website for more information: https://ogsgs.org/dna/submit.htm

Sincerely,

Pamela Eve Hansen, MLIS & Archives
President, OGSGS

If you want to get maximum benefit from this project you'll need to submit your Pedigree or Lineage. This is the only way to relate your DNA results to Genealogy. The information you need to submit depends on the tests you have taken. If you've taken the Family Finder test or transferred autosomal r...
