Update on the SCMA online properties: The Ning site will remain open through January 19, 2013 so that members and brands may reach out to one another before closing out the site. We will keep the page open indefinitely and encourage members and brands to use it as a place to reach out to one another and us for connections, advice and support. Thank you for all of your support and kind words! Keep up the hard work!

Dear Friends:

All of us at BlogCrush/SCMA are passionate about advancing the art of social media and communications. We have spent the last five years working with influencers, bloggers, photographers and brands providing connections, education and support in the hopes of bringing best practices to light.

That being said, it is with heavy hearts that we must close the SCMA. This closure is by no means how we hoped to begin 2013 and it pains us to not be able to continue our mission. The Ning site and page will remain open for members and brands to communicate with one another as we decide what to do with these properties in the future.

SCMA members who paid for their membership will have all of the dues they have paid to SCMA, including those who paid monthly installments, refunded. If you paid for a membership, you will be contacted in the next few weeks about your refund.

We are still available to provide bloggers, writers and influencers with advice and guidance and brands with consulting services. Suzanne Broughton can be reached at [email protected], Marcy at [email protected], and Lisa at [email protected].

Good news! Instragram has reversed its decision to use users' photos for commercial reasons.

It has been announced that starting in January Instragram will be able to SELL users' photos. Your pix could end up in brochures, on websites or as tv commercials with absolutely no compensation to you and without your permission. In its first big policy shift since Facebook bought the photo-sharing site, Instagram claims the right to sell users' photos without payment or notification. Oh, and there's no way to opt out. Read this article by Declan McCullagh on CNET News.
