Meeting Wrap-up Email
Wildcats Families,
As we get ready for another season of Onsted Wildcats Soccer, I wanted to share a few important reminders and expectations. More importantly, thank you for being part of our program. This is a community program, and it only works because of the time and effort our coaches, volunteers, referees, parents, and players put into it.
Coaching & Practices
Our coaches have a lot of autonomy when it comes to practices and how they plan their teams. Each coach may have a different approach, but the goal is always the same: help our players learn, improve, have fun, and develop a love for the game.
We are also still looking for assistant coaches for two U10 Coed teams and our U12 Girls team. If you are interested in helping, please reach out. You don't need to be a soccer expert—we can teach you the game, but we can't teach you to care about the kids.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Interested in sponsoring Onsted Wildcats Soccer and helping us continue to grow the program?
Check out playows.com or email us for more information. Sponsorships help us provide opportunities and resources for our players and keep soccer growing in our community. Also, we use it to pay for registration fees for families who need a little extra help.
What Players Need
For every practice and game, players need:
Cleats (No toe cleat. They cannot be baseball or football cleats.)
Shin guards (Always)
A water bottle
Bring a soccer ball if you have one
The cleat and shin guard requirement does not apply to FUNdamentals.
No jewelry—ever. This includes earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc. Please plan accordingly. Coaches and referees cannot make exceptions to this rule for safety reasons.
We also have some extra gear available if your player needs something. Please don't hesitate to ask. We'd much rather help get a kid properly equipped than have them sit out.
A Reminder About Our Referees
Our referees come from communities throughout the area, and many of them are young referees learning the game themselves.
There will be bad calls. There will be missed calls. There will be calls you don't agree with. That's part of youth soccer.
One thing to remember: players remember your reactions much longer than they remember the bad call.
Let's set the example we want our kids to follow. Encourage them, support them, and let the referees do their job. We're trying to develop players—and we're also trying to develop the next generation of referees.
Give Us Some Grace
Finally, please remember that we are all volunteers.
Our coaches, board members, administrators, and other volunteers are giving their time because they care about this community and its kids. Collectively, our volunteers put thousands of hours into making this program happen.
That doesn't mean we'll get everything perfect. We won't.
Schedules will change. Communication may occasionally be delayed. Someone will forget something. A field may not be exactly how we'd like it. That's youth sports.
Please give our volunteers—and each other—a little grace. If something isn't right, reach out and we'll do our best to fix it.
Communication & Schedules
All official communication will be through the GotSport app. We are populating practice schedules now. Expect the game schedule to take a week for assignment from the league.
Please download the GotSport app and log in using the same account you used when registering your player. This is important because team communication, schedules, and updates will be sent through the app. Your coaches and teammates are all populated in the app. There may be a few changes coming once 150 people lay eyes on the work 4 have done.
Players will also receive a season/event schedule to take home during the first week of practice.
Thank you again for trusting us with your kids and for helping make Onsted Wildcats Soccer what it is. We're excited to get another season started and see the kids back on the field.
As always, reach out to [email protected] if you have any issues. Also, head on over to playows.com for league rules, policies, and helpful links.
Let's have a great season, support one another, and—most importantly—make it a great experience for the kids. ⚽
