Everyone licensed amateur radio operator is welcome to participate in our weekly net. The Public Safety Amateur Radio group was organized in 2017 to assist with backup communications in the event on an emergency. We support the Skywarn program and have certified weather spotters that report seve

re weather situations to the Blount County EMA and the National Weather Service. We also help man shelters in emergencies and provide backup communications to our public safety department in the county when needed along with a disaster communications system set up at St Vincent's Blount. We also have helped get numerous fire department personnel licensed as amateur operators and have several members that are EMT and paramedics and work at different fire departments. We also have added a K9 search and rescue team to our group to assist in cases of missing persons/children.
