Nebraska Wander Freunde Trailblazers We're the Nebraska Wander Freunde Trailblazers, or “Trailblazers” for short, a local, non-competitive walking group organized in the greater Omaha metro area.

We’re a walking group organized in the greater Omaha, Nebraska metropolitan area as a volksmarching club dedicated to walking for Fun, Fitness and Friendship! All walks and events listed on Facebook are open to the

public, without club membership. Most walks have a $4 per walker fee (children under 12 are free), but occasionally, we'll have free walks with shorter distances. Walking is a great way to boost personal fitness, circulation, mental acuity and get outdoors. Our walks are non-competitive and are designed to be fun, often with themes. For example, our annual Soup Walk is our first walk of the year, where all contribute to a big pot of soup – and then get to eat it after walking! Extra cans of soup brought to the walk are given to a local food pantry. Be sure to check out our website to learn more about our group, how to take part in our walks and how to take advantage of our membership in the America's Walking Club, the American Volkssport Association (AVA), which offers almost 2500 walks all across the United States, with links to walks in the rest of the world!

Nine of our club members were among the 5,486 Volksmarchers (walkers) at the Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota today. This will be offered again September 27, 2026 if these pictures intrigue you! Our next club event is June 14th at the Gene Leahy Mall from 10 a.m. to noon, where we give passersby gifts to celebrate the AVA's 50th birthday. See you there!

We've gotten a couple of questions about just where Entrance 4 to Standing Bear Lake is located. It's on N. 132nd Street between Ida/Military and Fort Streets, closer to Ida/Military than to Fort. There are 2 entrances along that stretch - don't get fooled! Some pictures might help. We'll be at the shelter behind the playground, marked with that gray marker inside of the blue circled area.

This morning's group visit to The Wall That Heals in Council Bluffs was a somber experience. We remember those who gave their lives to support this country, in this case, the Vietnam War. What an appropriate way to begin the Memorial Day weekend! The exhibit will run until May 25th at Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, if you'd like to learn more.

The weather for tomorrow's (Saturday's) walk at Standing Bear Lake looks great! The group walk will start at 9:30 a.m. Since this is a Volksmarch, a $4 fee per walker applies. See you at the shelter behind the playground at the end of the road coming in from Entrance 4 (N. 132nd Street, between Fort and Ida, much closer to Ida than to Fort - the turn comes up suddenly, so keep an eye out for the large entrance sign.)
