I Be Black Girl

I Be Black Girl I Be Black Girl (IBBG) creates space so Black women, femmes and girls can authentically be.

I Be Black Girl (IBBG) is a reproductive justice organization that leads with boldness, innovation and inspiration, actively creating a radical change-making culture that centers Black women, femmes and girls. Inspired by the work of bell hooks, Alice Walker, Audre Lorde and other Black feminist and womanist, our organization provides transformational change at the intersections of gender and race

. The term “I Be,” framed by author bell hooks in Be Boy Buzz, inspired IBBG’s founder to fill spaces with what it means to exist as a Black woman, femme or girl — where we are free to define and own that narrative.

Recently, racist comments targeted a young Black actress cast as Elsa in The Rose Theater’s production of Disney’s Frozen.

As The Rose stated, she was cast because she was the best performer for the role. Period!

We refuse to let hate have the final word.

IBBG has purchased 146 tickets for Frozen on Friday, June 26, at 6:30 PM, and we’re inviting our community to show up for this talented young actress and every young person who deserves to see themselves reflected on stage.

Because that’s what a village does. We protect our own.

Tickets will be available ✨FREE✨ of charge through will call beginning at 5:45 PM when the box office opens.

Bring the family and let’s fill that theater with love.

Every child deserves the opportunity to dream without having their humanity questioned. Every child deserves to know that their gifts belong center stage. And every child deserves a community willing to stand beside them.

To this young actress: we’re proud of you, we’re rooting for you, and we’re excited to see you shine.✨

Let’s pack the house and show this young star just how many people are cheering her on.

We’ll see you at the theater. 💜

June 1–8 is High-Risk Pregnancy Awareness Week.

If your provider refers you to a Maternal-fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist, take a deep breath!

MFM specialists are trained to support pregnancies that need closer monitoring and specialized care. If your provider refers you to one, it isn't a reason to panic, it's your care team making sure you have the support you deserve.

Your OB may refer you to a MFM specialist if:

✨They want an expert opinion on managing your pregnancy risks
✨You have a pre-existing condition and are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
✨You've had a high-risk pregnancy or complication before
✨A complication develops during your current pregnancy
✨An ultrasound raises a concern about your baby's health

Every pregnancy journey is different, and sometimes having more people in your corner is exactly what's needed.

“Without community, there is no liberation.” — Audre Lorde

This month, we’re celebrating LGBTQ+ joy, amplifying q***r voices, and remembering that liberation has always been a collective effort.

Black LGBTQ+ communities have been vital to this movement since the beginning. They have built community where there was isolation, created belonging where there was exclusion, and shown us what it looks like to choose each other again and again.

Because being a village means we are more than what we’re up against.

As attacks on Black LGBTQ+ communities continue, we must all see ourselves as responsible for one another as a collective.

To our LGBTQ+ family, we love you, we see you, and we ain’t going anywhere without you.

Happy y’all! ❤️🌈

Last month the Nebraska Legislature took the first step towards making doula reimbursement through Medicaid a reality for Nebraska families.

Why is this so important?

The current cost for doula services often limits the amount of mamas who can access this hands-on, culturally grounded support. And for doulas this can affect their ability to offer their services full-time.

Stories like those of Alexus, a local doula, illustrate The Cost of Care in our community and why policy changes like AM 3128 are so crucial.

🎧 Listen to Alexus’s recording here: https://www.ibbg.org/the-cost-of-care/alexus?utm_source=ig&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio&fbclid=PAdGRleASGpdhleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA8xMjQwMjQ1NzQyODc0MTQAAafhzp1HoVRRcaVcLjLKVXOZ8OFCr4MPx7Zkz5rJo76XSzh9aMaI7W6ZDRR19A_aem_YCqaKGCIPjqwhA5bKClg7A

We hope you will stick with us as we continue to provide updates on doula reimbursement and the true cost of care in our community. 💜
