For the past six months we have had the honor of hosting Matt Mason as our Castle & Cathedral District Poet in Residence. Matt Mason wrote this lovely poem about his time here.

During his residency, Matt organized monthly poetry open mic nights, writing workshops with UNMC, youth poetry workshops and more.

Most of all we enjoyed seeing him around Joslyn Castle & Gardens on the way to his turret gallery office and getting to hear him read poetry at venues across our district during Art Walks.

We’re looking forward to a continuing No Gatekeepers Poetry Night and exiting collaborations in the future! Thank you, Matt!

Have you seen Gabriella Quiroz’s gorgeous solo show presented by LALA (Local Artists. Local Art) Exhibitions at Joslyn Castle?

Ghosts that We Knew is a tribute to Sarah and George Josyln’s love of horticulture at the turn of the 20th century. They were known for their renowned orchid collection, which included more than 1,200 orchids, as well as a 6,200 square foot conservatory. Devastatingly, the conservatory, along with their beloved plants, trees, and grounds, was destroyed in the 1913 Easter Tornado.

The exhibition serves as a small homage to that loss, both for them and the city, and features 16 detailed, vibrant colored-pencil botanical drawings by Gabriella Quiroz.

On view in the first floor galleries at Joslyn Castle & Gardens now through November 16. See it by attending a public tour, Castle program or attend the Autumn Art Showcase on October 22nd from 5-8pm!

Our next FolkHouse concert is October 16! Join us in the historic Joslyn Castle Carriage House for an evening with singer-songwriter, Sarah McQuaid in a tradition that spans cultures and genres with peerless musicianship.

Sarah McQuaid’s lush, velvety voice combines with her engaging personality and “brilliant musicianship” (fRoots) on acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and (occasionally) drum to create a truly immersive experience. Her live performances are full of warmth, wit, and intimacy, and have earned her loyal followings on both sides of the Atlantic.

Tickets now available on the Joslyn Castle website.

We hosted the Heartland Plein Air Festival lunch break sessions here in the Castle & Cathedral Creative District yesterday. It was a moody, rainy day in Omaha, but the artists set up in the shade of the Joslyn Castle & Gardens garden, umbrellas and some in the backs of their cars!

Thank you Ralston Hinge Creative District for organizing the festival and getting all the Creative Districts involved!
