🌊🏊‍♂️Summer is here! Heading to the pool, lake, or beach to cool off? Before you dive in, let’s make sure your family stays safe with these 4 quick, essential water safety tips:

👀 Designate a "Water Watcher": Never rely on lifeguards or pool toys alone. Assign an adult to give the water 100% undivided attention, no phones, no distractions. Rotate the duty every 15 minutes!

⚓ Choose the Right Life Jacket: Inflatable water wings and pool noodles are fun toys, but they aren't safety devices. Always use a properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket in open water or for inexperienced swimmers.

🏊‍♂️ Learn Survival Skills: Ensure your family knows the basics of water competency—floating, treading water, and swimming to an exit. Enrolling in swim lessons is one of the best ways to protect your kids.

🛑 Ask First: Establish a strict rule that children must always ask an adult for permission before going near any water, including backyard wading pools.

A little PNW rain couldn't dampen our spirits! 🌧️ The Great Olympia Bike Rodeo on Saturday was an absolute blast and we had a fantastic turnout despite the weather!

Putting on an event like this takes a village, and we had the best team on our side. A huge thank you to the Olympia Police Department and Intercity Transit Walk N Roll for partnering with us to teach bike safety and cheer on our riders. And to our rock star volunteers who braved the damp weather, we couldn’t have done it without you! 🚲

McLane Black Lake FD is having our annual Bicycle Rodeo at McLane Elementary THIS SATURDAY May 30 from 11-1 pm. Bring your bike 🚲 and bike helmet. Your firefighters will be available for rider safety, helmet sizing, bike safety and skills course. We will have Fire department goodies along with water and snacks!

Huge shoutout to S.E. Thurston Fire Authority for the fantastic video highlighting our Life Jacket Loaner Board partnership!

We are so proud to work with incredible stewards across Thurston, Mason, and Grays Harbor counties to build and maintain these stations. These cabinets are a vital community safety net, ensuring everyone has access to a life-saving vest before hitting the water.
