REGISTRATION OPEN: Ke Kula Pōʻaono o MIKA (MIKA’s Saturday School)

E komo mai (come) and join us our Ke Kula Pōʻaono o MIKA (MIKA’s Saturday School) - a twice/month program for families with children 0-5 years old to play together, hear a story, and do developmentally-appropriate cultural activities in ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i (the Hawaiian language). Together, as a community of Native Hawaiian families, we will learn together and practice our language and culture while helping our keiki (kids) with their early literacy. Ke Kula Pōʻaono o MIKA is a free, enrollment-based program for the rest of this calendar year from September 2026 - June 2027 within South Seattle, WA (Skyway or Rainer Beach area).

Activities are geared towards 0-5 years old but the whole ‘ohana is welcome. No ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi experience needed; Kumu Kamalei is only 4+ years into her own journey and we will be supporting each other. Parents MUST stay with their keiki (children) the whole time.

OURstory, a groundbreaking national Indigenous storytelling initiative launching on August 25, 2026. Backed by support from the Minority HIV/AIDS Fund (HHS) and produced by the Indian Health Service in partnership with Kua'āina Associates, Inc. and The Raven Collective, the campaign centers the voices and leadership of Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, American Indian, and Alaska Native individuals to eliminate HIV-related stigma.

The initiative features three core components designed to serve as both a cultural archive and a call to action:

The OURstory Social Marketing Campaign: Digital stories, video/audio documentaries, and graphics amplifying Indigenous voices.

The Interactive Historical Timeline Experience: An immersive, decade-by-decade journey highlighting milestones, resilience, and community history.

The OURstory Playbook: A practical guide equipped with tools and strategies for community organizations and Tribal programs.

Earlier this month, we marked 20 years since Mokuʻāina a Wakinekona Hawaiian Civic Club was founded on July 8, 2006. Across two decades, many hands have helped promote, preserve, and perpetuate Native Hawaiian culture here in Washington.

Every gathering, workshop, scholarship, mele, meal, and act of service has added another strand to our lei. We honor our founders, past and present leaders, members, partners, and community who have carried this work forward.

As we look toward the years ahead, we remain guided by the strength of our lāhui and the belief that we are stronger when woven together. Share a favorite MAWHCC memory or a hope you carry for our next chapter.
