Highlights from the 2026 Student Delegation

We asked our ambassadors what their favorite part of the trip was and here are some of their answers 🌸

- My weekend with my host family
- BBQ with my host family and another at a temple.
- Hanging out with my host family. It was enjoyable to do things with them and fascinating to see what they did.
- Going to the pool as a group and also hanging out with my host family on the weekend.

Highlights from the 2026 Student Delegation

We asked our ambassadors what their favorite part of the trip was and here are some of their answers 🌸

- The FOOD! It was SOOO AMAZING!!!
- Having fun with the other ambassadors
- All of the people we got to meet and places we got to go
- I think my favorite parts of the trip were all the small moments when I felt like I was getting closer to the other student ambassadors. I feel like I’ve made a lot of good friends, and this experience wouldn’t be the same without them.

Our 2026 Student Delegation has been in Kato a few days now, and has enjoyed visiting junior high and high school, tea ceremony, and calligraphy lessons!

Our 2026 Student Delegation has headed to Kato! Before they left we asked them what they were looking forward to on this trip.

Maeya said she is looking forward to getting to know her fellow ambassadors, and thinks the best part of the trip will be bonding with new people. Her favorite Japanese food before the trip is takoyaki.

Will takoyaki still be Maeya's favorite Japanese food when she gets back??

As our 2026 Student Delegation prepares to head to Kato, we asked past student ambassadors what advice they have for this year's ambassadors:

2024 Student Ambassador Lucy said "I learned it is ok to make mistakes and the people there like it when you try to speak Japanese, even just a little. They are really nice and understanding, and will sometimes teach you something new! I wish I had used more Japanese on the trip, so please do!! Also, make sure you have 5 ye coins for the shrines and 100/500 yen coins for the gacha machines!"

Our 2026 Student Delegation is on their way to Kato! 🎉

The delegation is made up of high school students from around Thurston County. They will spend about 10 days exploring Kato and the surrounding area, stay with host families, and build lifelong relationships and memories.
