This National Apprenticeship Week, we want to highlight HealthPoint's Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship Program. With 12 active apprentices, the program has graduated nearly 30 MAs who are committed to care for their communities.

At HealthPoint, apprentices receive full wages and benefits, while tuition, books, and the first attempt at the NHA MA Certification Test are fully covered. In turn, HealthPoint gains highly engaged team members who are trained in their systems, aligned with their culture, and rooted in their care community.

Join us in celebrating HealthPoint for their outstanding efforts in standing up their MA program.

This National Apprenticeship Week, we want to highlight the incredible work of Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC). At YVFWC, 12 of their 15 WA sites host apprentices, 41 have completed the program, and 21 are currently enrolled. Retention of apprentices is a great strength of this program with 81% of Certified MAs staying at YVFWC after completing the program.

"We had a really high rate of turnover in 2024, and the MA apprenticeship program honestly saved by team," said Jashay Ornelas, clinic nurse supervisor at YVFWC. "They are getting better training than a lot of traditional programs, and they're getting paid while they do it. It is an amazing opportunity for the apprentices, for our clinics, and for our patients."

Join us in celebrating YVFWC and their outstanding work to grow and sustain their MA apprenticeship program.

Happy National AHEC Week!

We want to take a moment to celebrate the amazing work that our SW WA AHEC program at Washington Association for Community Health is doing. They are making an incredible impact in our community with students interested in health care and serving rural areas. Some key programs include:

Career Pathway — Supporting 9th–12th grade students at career fairs, immersion opportunities, and more within the health care field.

Rural Underserved Opportunities Program (RUOP) — A four-week immersion experience in community medicine for first-year medical students, focused on rural and underserved communities.

AHEC Scholars — A two-year national certificate program preparing a diverse, skilled primary care workforce for rural and high-barrier communities.

Continuing Education (CE) — High-quality professional development covering a wide range of health care topics to help professionals grow their competency and maintain licensure.

People think that success is constantly staying busy and always being productive, but that is actually not the case.

With Mental Wellness, success can be taking rest, which is productive. If you are always working and staying busy, then productivity can not stay consistent without rest.

Emphasize taking a break before burnout. Saying no without guilt. Adjusting a goal instead of quitting outright. This is what success looks like for mental wellness!

Let's continue to shift the narrative of what success looks like.

For a sustainable New Years Resolution, you don't need 10 different goals. You just need one that sticks.

It can be really easy to get caught up in the hype of the "new year, new me" that we can sometimes create multiple unrealistic goals that are unsustainable.

Mental Wellness grows and improves with consistency, not pressure.

Value progress over perfection, and think of a goal that you could reasonably accomplish to build momentum like better sleep or working on setting boundaries!

01/09/2026

If your New Year goals usually fall apart by mid-January, you’re not doing anything wrong.

Most goals fail because they ask for too much, too fast. That’s not how mental wellness works.

Real, sustainable goals:
• Start small
• Fit into your actual life
• Leave room for off days

This January, we’re focusing on goals that support your mental health without the burnout or all-or-nothing pressure.

Ready to step up your patient care role? As an LPN, you get deeper nursing responsibilities with faster schooling.

Start by checking LPN programs in your area and bridging your MA coursework.

📸 Job Snapshot

- Provide basic nursing care under supervision: monitor vitals, administer some medications, assist with hygiene, assist RNs, document care.

- Often employed in long-term care, outpatient clinics, home health, or rehabilitation settings.

✔️ Benefits / Appeal

- Salary average: ~$57,000+/year (varies by state, experience, shift)

- Work environment: nursing homes, clinics, home health, occasionally hospitals

- More patient contact and nursing responsibilities (vs MA)

- Shorter schooling time compared to RN

- Good stepping-stone toward an RN later

👣 Steps You Can Take as an MA

- Research LPN programs in your state (duration ~12–18 months in many places).

- See which prerequisite courses you already have (e.g. anatomy, physiology, microbiology) and get any missing ones.

- Apply and enroll in a LPN program (clinical rotations, coursework).

- Pass the NCLEX-PN (or equivalent licensure exam).

- Gain experience as an LPN while planning the next RN step (if desired).
