Volunteers are needed now for the Olympia Oyster Seed Planting Project. It is fun, interesting and helps Puget Sound. For 18 years our group has been planting oyster seed on all of the saltwater tidelands, shoreline and beaches around Olympia and Thurston County. We plant two species of oyster seeds: Big Pacific Oysters which clean up our bays and can filter 50 gallons of water a day; and Tiny Olympia Oysters which our indigenous people have been eating for 1000s of years. Olympia Oysters were nearly wiped out due to overharvesting, and now, thanks to volunteers like you, are making a comeback. Volunteers will be making oyster grow bags for planting oyster seeds. Want to learn more? Please watch www.OysterVideo.org , checkout our page and website: www.OlympiaOysterSeedPlantingProject.org . The volunteer days and times are below. The volunteer address is 2017 East Bay Drive NE, Olympia, WA, 98506. Volunteers need to bring work clothes, work shoes, work gloves, sun hat, and water bottle (and snacks/lunch if needed). We do have a toilet and running water here. The volunteer information phone is 360-292-0736, email: [email protected] . Looking forward to meeting everyone and having fun making grow bags and planting lots of oyster seeds together. Please tell all of your family, friends, and colleagues!! Thank you very much, Yours Sincerely, Dan from the Olympia Oyster Seed Planting Project.
