U.S. News & World Report has released its 2026–2027 Best High Schools rankings, and four of Oklahoma’s top five high schools are right here in OKC:

🏆 #1 Dove Science Academy High School OKC
🏆 #2 Classen High School of Advanced Studies
🏆 #4 Harding Charter Preparatory High School
🏆 #5 Santa Fe South Pathways Middle College

The U.S. News rankings evaluate nearly 18,000 public high schools nationwide based on six factors, including student performance on state assessments and how well schools prepare students for college.

Another exciting addition to Oklahoma City’s education landscape!

Putnam City’s first public charter school, Puentes y Puertas, will offer a two-way English-Spanish dual-language immersion model beginning in fall 2027. The tuition-free school will help students become bilingual, biliterate and academically prepared while bringing together English- and Spanish-speaking learners in the same classroom.

Expanding high-quality public school options means more families can find the learning environment that’s right for their child. We’re excited to see another innovative choice coming to our community.

At its May 4, 2026, meeting, the Putnam City School Board approved a contract for Puentes y Puertas, a dual language charter school.

New national recognition for Oklahoma charter schools! 🎉

A recent article from The 74 highlights that Oklahoma charter schools continue to outperform neighboring traditional public schools on student achievement measures, despite serving higher percentages of economically disadvantaged students and receiving less funding.

This recognition reflects the dedication of school leaders, educators, staff and families who are working every day to expand access to high-quality educational opportunities for Oklahoma students. We are proud to celebrate the impact charter schools are making across our state!

Aldeman: 31 of 49 brick-and-mortar charter schools outperformed their neighboring traditional schools last year — one by 59 points.

A major step forward for Oklahoma charter schools.

House Bill 3372, recently signed into law by Governor Kevin Stitt, creates new financing tools to help charter schools address facility challenges and plan for future growth.

The new law establishes a revolving loan fund and includes a moral obligation provision that could help schools access lower interest rates and more affordable financing options.

Strong schools need strong facilities, and this legislation provides charter schools with another important tool to better serve Oklahoma students and families!

Oklahoma ranks fifth nationally in preschool access for 4-year-olds, but enrollment has dropped from 76% to 65% since 2019. Researchers and local advocates say many parents simply don't know free pre-K is available, and school districts in the Tulsa area are paying parent advocates to knock on doors...
