Thomas Ferguson II was remembered and honored today during the sentencing of Tracy Mitchell. This tragedy never should have happened and his family should never have had to endure this 4 year wait for justice. Everyone who spoke for Thomas did an amazing job conveying who he was and what he meant to them.

‼️SENTENCED‼️

Tracy Mitchell, 47, was sentenced to 25 years with the first 15 years to do in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. She was charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree for killing Thomas Ferguson, 36, in a DUI accident on July 14, 2022.

Mitchell entered a blind plea of guilty in March. The Court ordered a pre-sentencing investigation (PSI) and scheduled sentencing for today.

Mitchell was taken into custody at the completion of the hearing.

A law that was written after an Oklahoma teenager was killed in a car crash will now go into effect on Friday. The teenager's mother has turned her pain into purpose to help other Oklahomans in the future. Link in comments for full story.

Thank you Oklahoma Highway Patrol for all you do to prevent these tragedies. Wrong way driving is nearly always caused by impairment, and when there’s a crash, it can be extremely violent. VOID has requested an interim study on wrong way driving technology to be conducted this fall by the House of Representatives, with hopes of creating a pilot program for implementation of a right way driver notification system.

An impaired driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 44 in Oklahoma City this morning came within seconds of changing countless lives forever.

Just before 9:30 a.m., the driver entered I-44 traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. The vehicle struck a semi-truck at May, disabling the semi in the roadway, but continued driving the wrong way for nearly three miles before finally crashing into the wall.

The driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center.

Miraculously, no one was injured.

Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous incidents law enforcement responds to. They often end in catastrophic or fatal crashes because innocent motorists have little time to react.

Today's outcome was the best-case scenario, but it easily could have been one of the worst.

Never get behind the wheel impaired. One bad decision can change lives in an instant.
