We have two new herd members to introduce today. Max and Cash arrived this morning and are settling in beautifully. We will have more updates as the boys get used to their new home!

Thank you to our friends and supporters who help make days like this possible for horses who need us...

We are frequently asked what these red containers are as they can be seen hanging on fences and trees at the ranch.

In our quest to limit pesticide use on the ranch we look to nature for a solution to a very typical problem. These red containers house fly parasites which are tiny beneficial wasps that help prevent flies by attacking fly pupae before adult flies emerge. Regular releases during fly season provide an effective way to reduce fly populations before they build up.

Thanks to Rincon-Vitova Insectaries for keeping up supplied with these beneficial critters!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Tucker has officially found his forever home!

Kathleen and Tucker shared an instant connection, and seeing them together on adoption day made it clear that this is the continuation of a beautiful partnership.

Tucker has been a special part of our lives here at the rescue, and while we will miss his face around the barn, nothing beats the feeling of seeing one of our treasured horses head off on their next great adventure with their special person

Join us in wishing Kathleen and Tucker a lifetime of happy trails and wonderful memories! 🥂🧡

Together, We Made a Difference! 🐴✨

What an incredible Help a Horse Day! We are feeling so much gratitude as we wrap up today’s event.

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who visited us, and to the amazing market and food vendors, our generous sponsors, and the incredible band who brought such great energy to the day. Your support and contributions helped make this event truly special!

Whether you met our horses for the first time, learned about our mission, or made a donation, your support is what allows us to continue providing a sanctuary for horses in need. Seeing the community come together for these beautiful animals truly warms our hearts.

We also want to give a special shout-out to our amazing volunteers. This event wouldn’t have been possible without your hard work, from prepping the ranch to sharing your passion for equine welfare. You are the backbone of California Coastal Horse Rescue, and we are so lucky to have you on our team.

Check out some highlights from the day below! 📸👇

Reminiscing on last year: The dust settling after setup. That quiet buzz before the gates open for Help a Horse Day… we can’t wait to see you all tomorrow!

The sweetest moments are ones like these between volunteers and horses… 🐴🤎

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Amigo, who left us earlier today.

Amigo’s journey with California Coastal Horse Rescue began when he was just an 8-month-old foal. He arrived with a severely damaged shoulder - an injury that many would have seen as an insurmountable obstacle. But Amigo was a fighter. Thanks to the dedication of our team and the support of custom corrective shoes, he defied the odds and lived a full and happy life right here at the rescue ranch.

If you have ever visited the sanctuary, you likely met Amigo. He was our “social butterfly” - a friendly, outgoing soul who never met a stranger. Whether he was greeting volunteers at the gate or nudging a visitor for an extra scratch, his personality was as big as his heart. He proved every single day that a physical limitation doesn’t define a horse’s spirit.

As you probably know, we took Amigo to the equine hospital in Somis last week to find out why he had not been feeling well. Recommended tests and biopsies were performed while he was there, and sadly, we received terrible news: Amigo had cancer. To ensure that our treasured boy did not suffer, we made the very difficult decision to have our veterinarian help him cross the Rainbow Bridge. Amigo passed away today, surrounded by the love he had known for so many years and at his beloved ranch home, where he had found sanctuary and hope.

Amigo was a living testament to our core belief: all horses have value, regardless of their age or disability. He wasn’t just a “rescue horse”; he was a teacher, a friend, and a cherished member of our CCHR family.

Rest easy, our beloved and sweet boy. You’ve earned your wings.
