I get asked a lot by people how they can be a part of course design and building. Here is a short (hopefully) post on the most commonly asked questions and answers.
1. Q: I found a sweet piece of land in ____City/ county and I want to build a course on it? How can I go about doing that.
A. First thing you should know is this. Chances are you are not the first person to think of that property AND there is good chance someone has already approached the land owner or government and asked. SO my best advice is this. If you see a sweet potential course- post about it here! See what the history is before you go and email your parks and rec director. Not to ask permission or anything, but to try to understand first. Many many people have been advocating for Disc Golf in this area, WAY before I got involved. THAT BEING SAID- please don't give up! If you see something cool, lets work together as a unified community and build something cool! (more about this in future posts)
2. Q: How can I help with the CDAG projects?
A: Honestly, the simplest things are the biggest things. Show up to work days is by far the BEST thing you can do. If that's not possible, then, clean when you can! Trash clean up, weedeating etc. Make sure you are following course design and city rules though. For instance, don't go cutting down trees and the fort, or mowing the lawn at Harrisville. Be wise. BUT cutting the tall grass at River park? YES PLEASE! Pulling weeds at Coldwater. OMG YES. Be wise, but don't wait for someone to tell you to help. TAKE INITIATIVE! When in doubt post about your intentions here, or any page really and see what the other stakeholders think.
3. Q: I want to help but I don't have equipment. Can I still show up on work days?
A. This is why this page exists! YES! People always bring extras. Just come out!
4. Can I donate to help out?
Q: YES. We are always raising money for new teepads, signs, and equipment. There will be a fundraising platform added here soon. Reach out to me via messenger here in the mean time.
