Nourish to Flourish Initiative

With almost 40 million jobs lost in the U.S. in just two months, housing is at risk and food insecurity has skyrocketed.

The Nourish to Flourish Initiative addresses the critical issue of food insecurity in Salt Lake City while simultaneously providing a badly needed boost to the local restaurant industry. But, like in most crisis situations, there are often silver linings. As the lockdown took effect in Salt Lake City, a small group of people from Sentry Financial, the Lightspark Foundation, and Pulp Lifestyle Kitc

hen began a conversation about how to address food insecurity while simultaneously supporting the restaurant industry. That conversation quickly evolved into an action plan for The Nourish to Flourish Initiative, which consists of three pillars: restaurants preparing food, organizations serving under-resourced groups, and community members providing funding.

The Nourish to Flourish Initiative is proud to announce that we have officially surpassed $1,000,000 distributed to restaurants in the Salt Lake City area!

Thank you to everyone who made this initiative possible, including our generous donors. 100% of each donation we receive goes back to local restaurants, which provides meals for those in need.

Even before the COVID crisis, 9% of Utahns lived in poverty and approximately 11% of our population (almost 400,000 people) experienced food insecurity. Despite these bleak numbers, there is hope. The Nourish to Flourish Initiative can help eliminate food insecurity by mobilizing and empowering local communities to address the issue.

Since the start of the Nourish to Flourish initiative, we have contributed $825,435 to local restaurants.

100% of each donation we receive go back to local restaurants, which pays for meals distributed through our service partners in the Salt Lake City area. Help out, and donate today at nourishtoflourish.org.

Founded in 1965, Utah Community Action is a nationally recognized provider of comprehensive services for income-eligible families. Their six core programs—Head Start, Adult Education, Case Management & Housing, Nutrition, HEAT, and Weatherization—address barriers to self-reliance to empower individuals, strengthen families, and build communities.

Small businesses in our community have been devastated by the pandemic. A decrease in revenue means that some of our beloved community staples have had to close their doors. In addition to this, food insecurity is at an all time high.

The Nourish to Flourish initiative was created to be apart of the solution. We purchase meals from local restaurants, then distribute them to those in need in the community through our service partners.

We would like to spotlight our service partner The Inn Between, a resource providing housing, hospice and medical care to people experiencing homelessness. This place opens their doors to all who need it, and provides life saving resources in the most dire of circumstances.

From their website: "We provide a home environment that enables adults experiencing homelessness to gain access to professional hospice care from State-licensed hospice agencies; undergo life-saving medical treatment; stabilize in preparation for surgery; or recuperate from serious illness, injury, or surgery. In Utah, 347,370 people are struggling with hunger - and of them 113,190 are children. Many of our service partners provide resources to the community, such as groceries or day programs. The Nourish to Flourish initiative connects these organizations with warm and healthy meals, which they then distribute to those in need. Our purpose is to combat hunger head on, and help our local economy in the process.
