Oconomowoc - The Oconomowoc Toastmasters met virtually using Webex on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 7:30 pm. President Bernice Hoppel opened the meeting. Ted Fuller served as the Toastmaster.

The word of the evening was perseverance which is a noun and means to persist in doing something despite difficulty. Reading master Donna Fuller read and excerpt of a speech from Martin Luther King about the importance of peaceful demonstrations showing the relevance of that even now. Donna also shared a joke with everyone.

For Table Topics members shared what they are doing since the Covid situation started. Ellen Bohn stated that she has still been working her jobs which have changed considerably. Ted Fuller talked about redoing the floor in his woodshed and getting it fixed up. Donna Fuller has been planting flowerboxes and enjoying spending time their dogs. Bernice Hoppel had been working from home; so that didn’t change. But she is enjoying more time at home planting a garden and watching the birds.

The first speaker was Ted Fuller with his speech ‘Click It or Ticket’. Ted related the history of seat belts including both the 2 point and 3 point styles. New York was the first state to require seatbelts to be worn in 1984.

The second speaker was Bernice Hoppel with a speech from the Toastmaster Leadership Excellence Series; ‘Motivating People’. Bernice shared the key points to motivate people including understanding what others need. Also, creating and maintaining a culture that is motivating.

There will be no Toastmaster meeting in July. Plans are being made for the summer picnic in August. Visitors may contact Oconomowoc Toastmasters through their website:

Toastmasters Hold Meeting

Oconomowoc - The Oconomowoc Toastmasters met using MS Teams on Thursday, June 2, 2020 at 7:30 pm. President Bernice Hoppel opened the meeting and gave the invocation. Ted Fuller served as the Toastmaster. Ted talked about the early development of our country in Birmingham, Alabama.

Word master was Bernice Hoppel with the word escapism which is the avoidance of situations and responsibility.

Table Topics Master Ted Fuller asked Ellen Bohn, “If a friend’s cell phone accidentally called you, would you listen in on the call? Ted then asked Bernice Hoppel, “If you have more than others have, do you have more responsibility?”

The first speaker was Bernice Hoppel speaking about the Quick Prep Speech. She used a slide presentation to show how to outline and develop the parts of a speech.

The second speech was by Mark Brewer. Mark’s speech was about the current racism issue. He shared the past 100 years of history that has brought racism to where it is today.

Ellen Bohn was the General Evaluator and also evaluated Bernice. Bernice Hoppel evaluated Mark Brewer.

The musing will be back on Monday. There has been about four weeks that have been trying for me. I hope that is now over and moving forward for me. Thank you so much for your patience. Have a great memorial weekend.

Please forgive me for the lateness on the weekly musing. I have gone cabin fever, lost my way, and need to find a new path to laugh as I go through life here of late. Love and Cheer to all the Toastmasters whole read this.

Oconomowoc - The Oconomowoc Toastmasters met using the MS Teams platform on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 7:30 pm. President Bernice Hoppel opened the meeting. Ted Fuller served as the Toastmaster.

Joke master was Mark Brewer, he shared a funny pirate joke.

Ted Fuller prepared the table topics questions for Donna Fuller, Chamy Lutz and Mary Tylicki.

The first speech was Return to Normalcy by Donna Fuller. Donna talked about the changes that people are dealing with during the Covid-19 pandemic and what it might look like when the social distancing is lifted.

Bernic Hoppel was the General Evaluator and also evaluated Donna Fullers speech.

Mark Brewer served as timer.

During the business meeting Donna Fuller reported that the dues had been turned into International for the next time period. Pam Gutsche asked for feedback about the website and also asked members to contribute thoughts on how they were coping with the social distancing.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30pm, this will also be an online video-conference meeting.

Toastmaster meeting will be on Thursday at 7:30 PM using MS Teams (avoiding Zoom while they fix security issues). I accidentally sent meeting request for Wednesday but changed it to Thursday. Donna and I test between us yesterday with a laptop and a iPhone it worked pretty good. I use MS Teams every week now for a department meeting with 12 people on it and it works pretty nice. I will be online at 7:15 to give us time to allow people to get started for first time. Note an agenda change I will be Toastmaster and Donna will be speaking.
