🤝 Strong Units Don't Just Recruit Scouts. They Build a Community.

One of the biggest challenges in Scouting is making sure we're not relying on the same handful of volunteers to do everything.

The solution? Help every family find a place to contribute!

Here are 7 practical ways to build parent engagement in your unit:

✅ Be upfront about expectations. Explain why adult participation is essential to running a safe, successful program.

🌱 Start small. Not everyone is ready to become a den leader or committee chair. Offer manageable tasks that help parents get involved.

🗣️ Invite parents to participate. Give families a voice in planning meetings and unit activities.

🙌 Give everyone a job. Ask someone to run a game, organize supplies, greet new families, or help with an activity.

📅 Set clear expectations. Encourage families to share responsibility for meetings, events, and outings.

❤️ Make Scouting about the whole family. Build skills, friendships, and connections that extend beyond the Scouts themselves.

🎉 Make volunteering fun! Create traditions, celebrate contributions, and show people that their help matters.

Remember: You don't need every parent to become a leader. You need every parent to see how they can help.

Ask personally. Start small. Make everyone feel welcome.

The strongest units aren't built by a handful of people doing everything. They're built by a community working together.
