Raising healthy, informed, and confident young people starts with open and age-appropriate conversations! Join PFLAG National at our upcoming PFLAG Academy Online virtual learning session, “Sex Education 101: Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth Through Inclusive Learning” to learn about the fundamentals of comprehensive health education, the current climate of s*x education in the United States, best practices in creating inclusive spaces in education, and tips and strategies for fostering conversations with the young people in our lives around s*x and s*xuality.

Led by special guests from Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, attendees will:

• Identify the difference between comprehensive s*x education and s*xual risk avoidance education.
• Understand the current political state of s*x education.
• Provide examples of inclusive s*x education best practices.
• Discuss strategies and tips for confident conversations with our youth around s*x and s*xuality.

LGBTQIA+ Pioneer: Tracey “Africa” Norman (born December 14, 1952). Tracey was the first Black trans model in the United States, known for her debut on a box of Clairol hair dye in the 1970s. Tracey saw early success as a model, and was even shot by the iconic Irving Penn for Italian Vogue. Her presence in the fashion industry signified a major milestone for transgender women everywhere as her star continued to rise.

Tragically, when Tracey’s transgender identity was outed, her career suffered significantly. However, today she is celebrated as a role model and inspiration for the q***r community and has been cited as an influence for trans icons such as Laverne Cox and Janet Mock.

Krista was 18 when she learned she had HIV, contracted from a boyfriend who never told her he was positive. Instead of hiding, she spent the rest of her short life speaking to thousands of teens and reaching millions more via Channel One, an in-school news network that aired in classrooms all across the United States.

Krista is rarely remembered these days, despite the fact her activism saved untold lives. Her story shreds and inspires me: "You still have your life, so don't waste it. Use it to do good things." 📖 by Jennifer McCollum

New HHS rule issued—and we know it’s scary. Here’s what you need to know: The new HHS rule impacts youth under the age of 18 for Medicaid and 19 for CHIP—it does NOT ban care, but does prohibit federal Medicaid and CHIP funding from being used for medically necessary care for transgender youth. The rule is expected to go into effect mid-October.

Now, here’s what else you need to know: Everyone, regardless of gender identity, deserves the healthcare they need when they need it. Today’s new rule from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services restricting access to medically necessary care for transgender young people is hurtful and harmful, and our hearts go out to all the families impacted. We will NEVER stop fighting for you and all of our trans loved ones.
