July 10, 2016, David McDaniel celebrated his 21st birthday - something he didn't think he would do after losing several peers to gun violence, and nearly surviving a drowning incident which claimed the lives of two of his best friends. Just two weeks later, on the night of July 24th, after returning to a friends house, he was met by gun fire as he parked his vehicle. David was rushed to a near-by
hospital were he was pronounced deceased. Being left to deal with the sudden & tragic lost of her only child, Founder, Jasmine Hardison began to use the tragedy as a call to action. She began to visit the homes of families that experienced the loss a child to gun violence; facilitating healing circles and providing grief support along with resources for survivors of gun violence. This became her new mission; to help others heal from the trauma associated with gun violence. Today, King David Respect for Life, Inc., is recognized by countless families throughout Oakland - also being listed in the Oakland Police Department resource guide for providing grief and healing services. We specialize in providing trauma-informed care to families through our healing; introducing holistic modalities such as yoga, sound therapy, & meditation to help combat PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
