Voci Women's Vocal Ensemble

10/08/2026

We had a dog day! In a recent all-day rehearsal, the special guest was Carter Whitney, whose human is our Artistic Director, Terry Alvord.

Carter Whitney spent most of her time by the piano (do you see her at the bottom of the photo?), but she also got up sometimes to allow dog-loving chorus members to pet her.

She did not sing along with us.

Join us (sans Carter Whitney) on November 14 or 15 for our concert inspired and accompanied by paintings of J.M.W. Turner! Details: https://www.facebook.com/vocisings/events

It's audition season! Make your appointment today, and/or forward this to sopranos and altos who might be interested in singing with Voci.

Thanks!!

What a breathtaking first weekend! ✨

Our "Burst into Spring" concerts have officially begun, and we are still vibrating from the energy in the room. This program has challenged us with its complexity and rewarded us with its beauty.

We are so proud to bring the works of composers like Jocelyn Hagan, Veljo Tormis, and Diane White-Clayton to life. Whether it’s the driving rhythms or the deeply moving harmonies, there is a piece in this show that will speak to your soul.

If you missed us last weekend, don’t worry! You have one more chance to experience the birth and bounty of Spring with us this Sunday - that's right, TOMORROW!

📣 Friendly Reminder: Discounted tickets are still available for singers in other local choirs! We’d love to have you in the house.

📍 St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 66 St. Stephen's Drive, Orinda

We sat down with our new Artistic Director, Terry Alvord, to talk music, mentorship, and the magic of an all-women’s ensemble.

Terry brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, both as a vocal performer and as a conductor. She has honed her craft performing with the SF Symphony Chorus for 25 years and leading a number of choirs, including Level 3 of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, Resound Ensemble and as the music director of Trinity United Methodist Church in Berkeley. This hardly scratches the surface of her experience - see link below to read her full bio!

From honoring the teachers who shaped her to carefully crafting a new program that celebrates all the new life we see and experience bursting into Spring, her vision is already breathing new life into our rehearsals.

Watch the videos to hear from Terry herself as to why she loves working with all-female ensembles, how her experience and mentorships have inspired her to lead and what of the Spring repertoire she is most excited to share with you all!

We're back in action putting together a fantastic spring repertoire that we're very excited to share with you!

Here's a little peek into the making of the music from our recent all-day retreat... It’s a lot more than just hitting the right notes!

It’s the messy pencil marks on our scores, the pre-rehearsal stretches to get our bodies ready, and—most importantly—the BLEND we continuously improve upon. From sharing a mid-day lunch to celebrating with a cake that says it all ("Music is my therapy"), this is where the magic really happens.

We don’t just build harmonies; we build a sisterhood.

So PLEASE save the date for "Burst into Spring," Voci's April concerts which celebrate the beauty of fresh beginnings in the world around us, as well as within us.
