At last week's Youth Program Showcase, our youth interns shared their summer projects on public health, substance use prevention, sexual health, and more.

We were also proud to partner with Civic Design Studio this summer on a Photovoice project, showcasing powerful images captured through the eyes of our youth. Thank you to everyone who joined us, explored their work, and supported the next generation of community leaders. We're incredibly proud of all they accomplished this summer and can't wait to see what they do next.

In February, Asian Health Services & Baywell Health Community celebrated Lunar New Year and Black History Month with an intergenerational, cross-cultural exchange between our Chinese elders and the students of Latitude High’s Black Student Union. This annual tradition featured an exciting exchange of art and movement– from learning about the history of the Afro-Brazilian martial art, capoeira, to practicing Chinese calligraphy words to usher in a new year of luck and prosperity. With language interpretation, the youth and elders participated in meaningful group dialogues about each of their lived experiences in Oakland. They shared about the challenges of being young Black folks and Chinese immigrant seniors, and spoke of the hopes, dreams, and possibilities they hope to create for their community.

As we go into this new year of the Horse, we are grateful for our youth and elders for showing us the healing and solidarity that is possible when we come together across generations and culture. While our Black and Asian communities have been historically and continuously pitted against each other, we know that we share more similarities than differences, and that we are stronger together. Shoutout to the youth of Latitude High 37.8 BSU—like one of our elders, Janet, shared, you are the hope of Oakland’s future!

Thank you to our co-hosts, Baywell Health and Sacred Roots.

This National Health Center Week, we are grateful for the many partners that make serving our communities possible. This week several partners and key supporters joined us for a clinic tour including San Leandro Mayor Juan Gonzalez, and the offices of Alameda County Supervisor Lena Tam and Assemblymember Liz Ortega, as well as Delta Dental Insurance Company, National Association of Community Health Centers, and Alameda Health Consortium.

With strong partnerships, Asian Health Services continues to expand responsive, whole-person care for communities in need of quality health care services. Thank you to our elected leaders, community partners, and supporters for standing with AHS and helping advance health across Alameda County.

Together, we are building healthier, stronger communities.

At Asian Health Services, almost 40% of our patient population is made up of seniors aged 65 and above. As a community health center, we are committed to meeting patients where they are and providing the highest quality of care that supports every stage of life.

For many of our elderly patients, the greatest obstacles to care exist beyond our clinic walls. To ensure our patients are aging with dignity and in the comfort of their homes, we are launching a Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). This comprehensive care model brings together 11 disciplines under one roof to help seniors maintain their independence, age with dignity, and receive the coordinated care they deserve.

This National Health Center Week, give a gift that helps honor our elders with care they deserve.
