For 50 years, AHS Patient Meetings have been a force for hearing from our patients and sharing important information that could affect their care. As always, we provide in-person simultaneous translation, asserting that language access is a health care right. This year’s meeting was another powerful reminder that our communities deserve care, education, and spaces where they are listened to and uplifted.
This year, we had 900 attendees – a record-high attendance. Through headset interpretation in nine Asian languages – Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Khmer, Burmese, Karen and Karenni - patients received critical information on Medi-Cal changes, the upcoming election, community resources, and civic engagement. The meeting also created a vital forum for patients to raise concerns, ask questions, and have their voices heard. 900 participants. Nine languages. One community standing together for health, dignity, and the right to be heard.
The gathering featured a patient art and cultural exhibition, vaccinations, legal resources, and lunch for all.
