If the winter storm has impacted you, take a few minutes to make sure you’re heating your home safely.

If you’re using fuel-burning appliances or equipment—such as furnaces, space heaters, or generators make sure they’re working properly and vented correctly.

✔️ Test carbon monoxide alarms so they’re ready to give early warnings
✔️ Clear snow from dryer, furnace, stove, and fireplace vents
✔️ Use portable generators outdoors only, away from doors, windows, and vents

The Sierra snowpack doesn't just feed the slopes, it feeds the valley. ❄️💧

Snowmelt from the Sierra Nevada is the #1 source of water for Central Valley agriculture and communities. A healthy snowpack means a healthier water supply all year long.

Protecting our watersheds starts at the top.

Sparky and Sierra also want to talk about the safety of grilling at home. Barbecues are a great way to keep the mess and heat of cooking outside of your home during the summertime, but improper placement and use can be a real danger.

Over 10,000 BBQ fires start annually in the US, with July seeing the largest number of fires for any month. Remember to keep the flames away from home and any flammable debris. Clean your grills to minimize grease fire potential, and always keep a water source close, just in case. Sierra and Sparky want everyone to enjoy backyard barbecues while remembering to Be Firewise!
