Fiercely loyal Prince Henry is looking for a chihuahua person, northern NJ
Get your tissues ready. Prince Henry looks like he’s smiling but he has a very sad story to tell 🎻 🎻 🎻
This 8 year old chi mix was adopted from our rescue about 2 years ago. He was with us a while and a tough sell. He took time to warm up and wasn’t great meeting adopters, but he finally found an experienced chihuahua loving middle-aged couple who accepted him, flaws and all. Their lives revolved around him and he adored and protected them. We received updates and though he had challenges meeting new people and accepting visitors, he had found his perfect home that was 💯 committed to him.
A few tragic weeks recently put an end to our little Prince’s fairy tale. His dad had been in the hospital battling some health issues and preparing for a big surgery. While that was going on, his mom suffered a sudden and unexpected heart attack and passed away. We got the call from a neighbor who knew he was adopted from our rescue, and because of his feisty personality there were no family or friends able to care for him with no one in the house. Once a Second Chance dog, always a Second Chance dog of course, so we immediately picked him up and he returned to his original foster home. We hoped to reunite him with his beloved dad who did not want to lose him, but he sadly also succumbed to his health issues just 2 weeks later.
Prince Henry is now an orphan as he enters his senior years and looking to start over. Over the years, his ferociously protective personality unfortunately alienated any friends or relatives of his adopters who might have been willing to take him in otherwise. Luckily he remembered us and his foster home right away and quickly settled back into a routine, further showing just how loyal he is to his chosen friends though he hadn’t seen us for 2 years.
What he lacks in people skills, he makes up for in dog skills. He LOVES other dogs- meeting new ones, playing with them, sleeping cuddled next to them. He’s happy with pack life, so if someone has a pack of dysfunctional little dogs that also chase away visitors he would fit in seamlessly. He can warm up with proper introductions to some people if they toss treats and ignore him, but assume he will be the type to be put in another room when intruders come and not be invited to family events. He’s a lovable cuddler once he trusts and is hoping some antisocial lover of quirky little dogs will take a chance on him. He’s about 15lbs and we think chihuahua/pomeranian/jack Russell maybe. His teeth show all the time, whether a wide-mouthed cheerful grin greeting his few friends, or defensive flashy show to scare off the Amazon delivery truck.
